It seems like both Verizon and Sprint will carry the 7135, and that it will be available with Verizon first. I am currently a Sprint customer. I am happy with my service, but don't feel that I have to stay with them. The #1 reason that I would stay with Sprint is that I could keep the same phone number.
My question is: Do people feel that Verizon is better than Sprint? How do the two services compare? If you had the choice (and both release the phone at the same time), which service would you use? I am in Long Island. Anyone know how Verizon's LI service is compared to Sprint?
My experience traveling extensively throughout New England and Eastern Canada has been terrific with Verizon. I also have a Sprint phone and its coverage is great in major cities throughout North America but not so great once you step out of the greater metro areas.
Plus with my plan with Verizon I never pay roaming fees...
Mike, since you are a new member here, I can understand why you would like to know more about this issue. But it has been debated here(very heatedly) ad nausium and rather than inadvertantly starting WWIII, I highly recommend that you do a "Search" with the keywords "Verizon" & "Sprint".
I promise that you will get far more opinions than you could want.
Welcome to the fold, you'll like it here.

Hmmm.... I'm glad you brought this up since we so rarely have this particular debate (j/k)
My personal opinion is that there is no "clear cut" answer to your question. If Sprint's coverage is good for your purposes, that's great. You would have to find out how good Verizon's coverage would be for your purposes to decide which is "best" for you. Your answer to that question may be different than the answer someone else will come up with for them.
I'm in the fortunate position that both Sprint and Verizon have excellent coverage in the DC area. The only things tying me down to Spring are contract and phone number. Losing my number wouldn't be the end of the world though. Either would paying the $150. But for now I'm just sitting back and waiting to see what my options will be :drink

lol, yep. You might want to just skip the search and research Verizon for your area on your own first! What area are you in? Probably a pretty major area if you have great coverage with Sprint, since those are the areas they are focusing on first.
Yeah, and welcome aboard! :drink1 :clap

Sprint's coverage in NJ is not very good... I think they only cover about 50% of the state geographically. (That's kind of sad considering NJ is the most densely populated state in the nation and even the boonies are crowded as anything these days.) Heck, they're even missing a few chunks of LI.
I have noticed that parts of LI don't get a signal with Sprint. That it my biggest problem with them. I will probably try switching to Verizon... Especially if they get the 7135 first.

In reply: Phone number portability will be coming soon. It's actually going to be an FCC mandate and Verizon (I heard) is going to be behind the move. (and portability means being able to convert your MTN # from carrier to another) even though it's FCC mandated it could be sometime before the billing systems of each companie are update enough to be able to do such a thing, but it's coming.
So far as Verizon vs. Sprint is concerned I'm biased (Verizon of course), but if you referrence different consumer advocacy groups I think you'll see a clear winner.
must we keep this debate up on which carrier is better?
i mean seriously, eveyone will enter his/her personal BIASED opinons and the question will not get answered.
the answer to this is to do your own research and see which provider is right for you. we have a million threads on this topic (some of them were locked because of the posting getting way OT) and we dont need a million and one...
dont mean to sound disrespectful or harsh, but this type of question will go no where...

What, isn't it that time of the year again?
Nah, I think this one's under control (for now!). I just think that asking which is "better" as a blanket question is the wrong thing to ask.... because the answer (if there is one) doesn't help out individuals. Even if there is a 80/20 ratio of which is better for 100 unique situations we would be doing a disservice to the other 20% by giving a blanket answer of "carrier X is best, period".
Talking about service comparisons in a particular area relevant to the original poster (i.e. Long Island)... that's the kind of input that's helpful. :drink1

Regarding data cost, we won't know till the sprint people start posting how many megs they are using/month. Two megs might be ok for checking email and using pqa's, but any kind of graphical web browsing would eat that up real quick.
Assuming the coverages and rates are equal in your mind, one of the things you should check into are which auxiliary services you feel are most useful.
Verizon has busy/no answer call forwarding; Sprint does not. Sprint has Voice Command with the ability to upload five hundred names (with I believe five number each) into your own web based database for accessing by voice recognition. To my knowledge Verizon offers no such service.
I am sure there are other differences in their offerings, too. Good luck in your shopping!

i apologize for having my first post be so negative but your arguements regarding Verizon and Sprint are ridiculous...Sprint is barely even considered a competitor of Verizon!!! The reviews in The Wall Street Journal and every reputable wireless magazine prove their severe lack of establishment.....coverage...of course Verizon wins! Customer Service ...........not even close.....Verizon Wins......phone reliability......another gimmie!! Tri Mode CDMA phones that can revert to Analog without extra cost.......there really is'nt any practical advantages to Sprint service except maybe for cheaper equipment to get started.......but let's face it you get what you pay for. Sprint CONSISTENTLY has the highest number of complaints to the BBB of any other wireless carrier on a monthly basis. Please tell me why people sucker themselves to the shady! advertising schemes!
you remind me of another verizon proponent.. and most of you guys know who im talking about...
i for one use sprint. i have had sprint for over 4 years. they give me the service i need for my business and personal use. their equipment (such as phones) are the same quality as verizon. you cant speak for everyone so please dont.
as i have said before, lets keep this thread above the belt. if we continue to have more carrier-bashing jargon here, this thread will be locked.
Sorry guys I was a bit out of it last night I'll be sure to think twice before ranting like that. I'm sure that, as mentioned, Sprint is appropriate for many different users. I'm not here to push one carrier or another I'm just eagerly awaiting the 7135 like the rest of you. I appreciate all of the info I've gotten here and hope to contribute my own if I get an early heads up at work. Thanks and sorry again
