What are the differences between VZW's two data plans?

Using VZW's site, I just used my NE2 to upgrade my XV6800 to a TP2! It will ship overnight, but the site says that it will not be shipped until tomorrow.

During the online upgrade process, in the PDA/Smartphone Email section, I noticed that I was defaulted to the "Unlimited Data Usage" plan for $44.99/month. (This is the plan that I somewhat ignorantly chose when I purchased my XV6800 two years ago.) There is also an "Email and Web for Smartphone" plan for $29.99/month.

The hyperlinked descriptions for these plans are not very helpful. I called customer support but still don't have much of an idea as to the difference between the two. The CSR said that "Unlimited Data Usage" plan is for "connecting to businesses". What does that mean? The CSR also mentioned that both plans offer unlimited data transfer (within reason, I imagine); IMO, that just confuses the name of the "Unlimited Data Usage" plan.

I opted for the cheaper plan, figuring it best to see what no longer works (if anything) for myself. In the meantime, can someone who has experience with both plans tell me what the practical differences are? Does push email (from, say, an Exchange Server, which I use) require the "Unlimited Data Usage" plan?

The more expensive plan is supposed to be required for exchange usage but I currently have the $29 plan and use exchange all the time, along with a crapload of data. Go with the cheaper one

Geeze are they still calling the "unlimited plan" because somebody took them to task for calling it unlimited when it obviously was anything but unlimited...

The more expensive plan is required if you are going to use the wireless sync manager. It's a cool tool that runs on your PC and your Mobile device and syncronizes your data using a Verizon server. I think there are other ways it works as well, but the jist is you don't have to sync using a sync cable; it all happens "over the air".

I ultimately decided to go with the cheaper plan because if I want to check my mail I can check my POP account using the cheaper plan, and then syncronize each night or whenever. There is more "mail management" involved that way because if you do check your pop mail you have to delete the messages when you are done; they won't go away from the pop account when you syncronize. It can be a little confusing because you have your syncronization account AND your pop account on your mobile device if you do it this way.

I hope that's clear...

I also think the $45 plan lets you tether. Tho maybe not... verizon really wants to get $60/mo out of you for data on a laptop....

You can tether on the cheaper plan and if you are using an exchange server you dont need the wireless sync option.

Thanks. In the past, with my XV6700 and then my XV6800, I used ActiveSync (under Windows XP) and then Windows Mobile Device Center (under Vista and Win7) to sync my email, contacts, calendar, and tasks with Outlook; however, I've found, over time, that this tends to inexplicably break and can't be fixed without doing a hard reset of the phone and a re-install of all of the apps on the phone.

With that track record, I'm to the point now where I try to do everything wirelessly: I use Windows Live to wirelessly sync my MSN/Hotmail email and my contacts. I use IMAP4 to sync my Gmail and ISP email accounts. (So whatever changes I make to my email and contacts on my phone is automatically seen on my desktop in Windows Live Mail, too.) I use Remember the Milk to sync my tasks. I haven't yet found a way to sync my Windows Live calendar though this feature is supposedly coming real soon now. I'm hoping I'll be able to do all of the above with the TP2, also.

Concerning Verizon's Wireless Sync Manager: I've never really understood its features. Will it sync my contacts? Will it sync all of my email accounts--or just a Verizon account? With the syncing I'm already doing as described above, why would I want to pay $15 more per month for Wireless Sync Manager?

Wireless Sync allows you to sync wirelessly the following:
Contacts
Calendar
E-Mail
Tasks
Notes
And just about any other file you want to keep sync'd with your PC.

Question

wow, I need some help/further clarification.
I'm coming from alltel in a few weeks but am off contract and waiting to get my hands on a tp2.

With alltel I've got nationwide service with no roaming, unlimited data, 5 My Circle/F&F numbers, 500 minutes for $70/month.

I don't see any $30/mo plan on the website, in fact it looks like the website says a comparable plan is going to cost me $80 - $100 with Verizon?
There is a $50 plan, but it doesn't say anything about voice minutes?

I'll be using OTA sync to an exchange server at work, and a cable sync to my pc at home.

Can anybody shed some light on this?
