Thought I would bounce this question off of some of you guys!
I have a cell phone (HTC FUZE) with an At&T data plan. Is it possible to use my log in info from the phone to get the integrated WWAN (cingular) working on my Sony laptop--sz230p?
I have wanted to know the answer to the question for years but always used Verizon....now I am with the AT&T network which is Cingular and think it may be possible.
First, are you confusing Cingular with Nextel? Nextel is a part of Sprint, Cingular is a part of AT&T. Your password for AT&T won't work on Sprint at all.
Second, the different technologies would then kill you. AT&T uses GSM, Sprint CDMA. You'll never see the Sprint network on a Cingular card or vice versa, unless it searches for both types of networks (which is unlikely).

Someone who has ATT service should probably answer this, but I can tell you as a Sprint customer, I can do this with my Sprint phone without software like that. I set the connection up through windows mobile ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) which should be on your Fuze (I have Sprint's version of your phone).
I think to use this software you'll need a login that has an aircard data plan on the account, so it will most likely fail for you. Setting up through ICS on your phone will violate your terms of service though, so if you do it, do it rarely.
I've always found it funny and sad that Sprint and other companies expect someone who already has a phone data plan to pay $25-40+ per month, just so they can use EVDO through their laptop.
If someone was downloading massive GB's per day of data/porn/ or whatever and their phone internet was their primary way of connecting, then ok, I can see them charging you.
The fact is the phone itself with the internet sharing is enough and I think it is a wonderful feature that I have used several times, but only in rare instances.
For business you usually are in a hotel, convention center, cafe, office, or other location with WiFi.
For pleasure most of us want to shut down the link to work, but may want to check email or catch up on some news, but does it really matter if you are on the phone or tethered through the phone via a laptop?
Thanks guys...I'm tethered so I am getting the most out of the data plan. Just wanted to know if I could migrate those setting to an existing WWAN which uses Cingular exclusively....looks like it is not possible.
it really cant hurt to try - but i would guess that no, it's not possible. I would expect that there is some SIM filtering that says "this username/pass is associated with this SIM which is associated with these services." it's probably something close to that, and you can dial up on your phone because the carrier cannot differentiate between DUN and regular data calls.
on verizon 6800 its was easy unable a dun with reg editor hook up laptop and you all set to go on my new fuze att i cant even download file lager than 10 mb att want 30 extra for telneting when verizon only 15 i saw on some website you can do it by deleting reg key in internet sharing line didnt try yet let me know if it work
