Hello,
My Sprint
Treo 650 used to receive email directly from Microsoft Outlook on my desktop rather than get it from a mail server. Microsoft Outlook downloaded my email from my mail server, to Microsoft Outlook on my desktop via (please don't laugh) the POP protocol. Then, on Microsoft Outlook I had a simple despammer that did a good job of getting rid of most of the spam from my inbox. My despammed inbox was then pushed out to my
Treo 650.
Recently Sprint discontinued the ability to push email from directly from Microsoft Outlook to their phones.
Another thing I should mention is the despammer I used seems to only work with POP email on Microsoft Outlook. It doesn't seem to support IMAP email.
So now I have to figure some other way to get despammed email to a Sprint phone. My understanding is that Sprint does support IMAP (is this true) from arbitrary email servers, not just from GMAIL, YAHOO, AOL, HOTMAIL, etc. Can anyone confirm this?
Assuming this is supported, I'd like to continue to get email to my phone from my existing simple email server. The problem is my simple email server does not get rid of spam, like GMAIL, YAHOO, etc., does so I'd have to somehow on my own, remove the spam.
I was thinking one way to do this is to have my desktop PC using Outlook via IMAP not POP, connect to the server. My understanding is there are despammers that runs on my Microsoft Outlook that gets rid of the spam from the server via IMAP. Then, when my phone reads the same email via IMAP, it would be despammed. Would that work?
If so, I'm wondering what IMAP-aware despammer to get. I'm on
Windows XP, using
Microsoft Outlook 2003.. I'm looking for suggestions for an IMAP-aware despammer.
Alternatively I could route all my email to GMAIL's server and, from there, it could get to both my phone and my desktop since of course GMAIL automatically despams. I'd prefer not to do this if possible. I'd like to try to keep my existing simple email server, which has no despamming capability, and still get despammed email on both my Sprint Phone and to my Microsoft Outlook inbox.
Thanks in advace!
