I recently sent an email to UTStarcom regarding the update that keeps getting put off and here is a copy of what they had to say:

There is a s/w update scheduled for release the later part of this year, pending final approval by the carrier. Their will be no update to wm6. All and any s/w update to the phone has to be requested from the carrier as the unit are built to there requirements.

There was a mention of software updates for the PN820. When are those coming? When will the windows mobile 6 update be coming? Soon I hope, and if not, why not???? We who have this phone love it and would like to see it stay on the cutting edge!!!!
Maybe we should all send messages to VZW and let them know that this phone is great and VZW should keep it that way by getting an update to WM6. It would be nice to see this form factor continue and be even better with the update. How do you all feel about it?
I found this over at PPCGeeks.com, the poster states he was in a Verizon store and saw a sign abouve a PN820 stating operating system Windows mobile 6.0. He asks if it is true or a printing error. Here is a link to the post and there is a link there to the picture he took with his phone.
I would highly doubt we see any update let alone one to WM6. When I was trying to buy a PN-820 last month nonw of the VZW stores had any and I couldn't evehn order one over the phone (which I wanted to do because online did not have all the discounts) and i had to go to a Circuit City to get it. Both told me that VZW was discontinuing the phone, and i got the same type of response when I was looking for the extended battery.
I heard the exact opposite from Verizon. I was told they cannot keep this phone in stock. That was in California, but as fast as they get the phone, they sell it and same goes especially for the extended batteries.
I was asking about that phone the other day in the Verizon store and was told no one likes it; they sold a total of 11 and all 11 were returned. (I wanted to ask if they simply sold the same bad phone 11 times but chose not to.)
wow thing really are different in the great lakes area. I have heard that these are blowing out the doors along both coasts. I can't imagine why someone would not like this phone unless they were too stupid to learn how to use it.
Next time I talk to my verizon insider I will get the scoop.
I currently have a pn820, 700wx, and a Q (I switch ESN's more often than my underwear). My plan is that when I receive my i760 I will sell the treo and the Q. The pn820 does blow the Q away imo. Its a nice phone to throw in my pocket. I am definitely not getting rid of it. Just wish I could do BT DUN it with my nokia 770 tablet.
Back on topic, I doubt we will see an update for the pn820.
It runs on a form of linux. I could tether it to my i730 using a hack, but have been unsuccessful with the 820, a treo and a Q. Some folks have done it with a Q, but only on Q's that have not had firmware upgrades done. I bought a Q to do it but have been unable to downgrade the firmware. So I now wait for the i760.
OT- the nokia 770 or 800 are neat devices would have been a sweet combo to have a small flip phone with a larger screen tablet. You can pick one up for 130.00 or less in some places. Nokia - Nokia 770 Internet Tablet - Phones - Find products
I bet people who know more than me could write a simple backend to be able to accomplish exactly that. After all the microsoft comm patterns are easy to mimic. I would post around in the forums and see if anyone can figure it out, as that sounds really cool!
