Message arrival delay?

Hey all, I have an 820 and I'm having a problem with getting text messages. I am on Verizon, and sometimes my messages get 'backed up' so to speak. I will be texting people and it will all be working fine, then suddenly I stop receiving from certain people. I can still communicate with some fine, but some I don't receive messages from anymore. I get all paranoid that my friends are ignoring me... Then a few days later I get a flood of 10 messages between then and now.

Right now it's giving me one new message (from the past - I can read the dates and times fine) every time I turn my phone off and on.... WHAT THE HECK?

Anyone have any insight? I have a 1gb storage card in the phone, and there's a lot of messages in my inbox but I still receive msgs from SOME people so it can't be full...

Thank you very much in advance...

.:EDIT:.
I occasionally get an error "There is not enough space for SMS..." -- Though I still get messages on occasion... The phone has other buggy things about it, what about new firmware? Mine is platform S/W version Pn82.044 if that means anything...

Try sending yourself some messages from www.vtext.com You can see the delivery status there and determine the source of the problem. IMO it sounds like you need a new phone. Are you running other programs that would affect SMS like Flexmail?

Send a message via AIM to Shaka

I've got a lot of apps running on my unit at a time but never have any delays or errors with SMS whatsoever. Sounds like you may have some other app that is conflicting, or as said above, maybe just need a new phone.

Thank you both for your replies. I will experiment with that link, and if I cannot figure it out, I will attempt to reset my phone to factory defaults and re-sync my contacts...

Anyone know how to do this? I could not find the information on the internet, or any kind of service pack or firmware. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Thanks again.

Before you return it do a hard reset and run it for a day with no programs at all.

Take the battery out then put it back in. As soon as you hit the power button hold down the ok button til it resets

Thank you. A hard reset is in the process. I always get paranoid that wireless sync won't work and I'll lose all my contacts when I hard-reset a phone... Will post back with followup.

FOLLOWUP

Hey I hard-reset the device, it seems to have fixed the message delivery problem, but now it won't talk to my computer. I can't get activesync working... Need to find my card reader so I'm not stuck with the horrid standard ringtones... Thanks for the help.

FYI in the future, there are all kinds of weird things that can happen to this phone if not rebooted or restarted on a routine basis (I recommend daily). Most of the time, a simple battery removal and replace will fix a lot of the errors that are posted here. Things get horked up and it needs a fresh start. For anyone with problems, try this first, before getting too stuck on problems and definitely before hard reseting.

I've had the exact same thing happen this week! I get that error message(SMS Full - delete from your inbox) every now and again too but ALL of my inboxes and outboxes and draft folders and trashcans are COMPLETELY empty. I suspected that error might actually mean something so I deleted EVERYTHING to no avail.

Just like you, I get one text message every time I power off/on. However, I am backed up for about one weeks worth of messages so I've done this about 15 times today and still have a few days worth to get.

I just tried the battery trick and when I turned the phone back on received just one more message, as always. We'll see if more come later though. I'm not holding my breath....

Update: 10AM and no more messages received. I tried the vtext.com thing and the status is stuck "Message accepted by network". Any ideas??

Very very irritating, I can relate entirely. The best I can suggest is hard-reseting your phone and calling up whoever you have texted recently to tell them you didn't receive their texts because of the problem. Since I hard reset it has all been working fine - though I suspect that once my inbox gets a lot of messages in it again, things will go downhill. Best of luck!

Thanks. If by "hard reset" you mean taking the battery out and putting it back in. I tried that and it still hasn't fixed anything Verizon is clueless. This is the first time this phone has made me sad. I have loved everything about it until now...

For those having text message problems. Do you have a sd card installed? Take it out, reboot and restart. Even though you delete the messages they can stay in the phone memory in different places and need to be deleted permenantly. I can't get into my phone right now, but you might check it out in the folders cause you might find all those deleted messages are causing the problems.

This sounds like a memory/storage problem.

Thanks for the tip. New question branching off --- How can one periodically delete their text messages and clear the folders? A setting that could change the amount of txts saved before clearing memory? Anything older than 10 messages gets deleted automatically?
