Applications Now Working With PN-820

I've been spending a great deal of time over the last few weeks working with developers trying to get some applications working with the PN-820 that have proven problematic, and I've got some success to report.

1) Navizon -- after much trial and error, the fine folks at Navizon have posted a beta today which can now pull down cell tower data on the 820 (previously, you could only use it in conjunction with a BT GPS receiver). I haven't had much time to drive around and test the accuracy, so I'll withhold comment on that for now. I've used Navizon on other devices before and it is really a cool program. You can find it at Navizon - Peer-to-Peer Wireless Positioning

2) Widsets -- I worked with the developers to get this application to recognize the 820 specifically and to change the keys so that the app is now fully functional on our device. Keep in mind that you will need to install a Java VM in order to run this program. Also, note that the left soft-key is inactive and the "*" key serves as its functional replacement. For those of you who haven't seen it, Widsets is essentially a widget program for mobile devices. www.widsets.com

Now for the bad news:

PhoneAlarm -- this was working okay on the 820 for awhile, but the last few builds have caused the device to lockup upon install requiring a hard-reset. I have been working with Bruce over at PocketMax and trying build after build to get this thing working again, thus far without much luck. Thankfully, I have Sprite Backup installed which saves my life each time! Will report back on progress periodically. PhoneAlarm is really a must-have WM application, so the sooner we get this going again the better! pocketMax Software - Pocket PC Software & development

Quick update: Bruce has fixed the problem with PhoneAlarm SP and it is once again safe to use on the Pantech. Make sure you get the newest beta from the forums.
