I tried the apps/sounds folder and the my documents folder but they only show up as a ring tone not an alarm tone. I remember with PPC you had to put them right in the windows folder... but i dont know on smartphone. Help...

Apparently I wanted to make sure the OP specifically tried "\Application Data\Sounds\" and not "apps/sounds". Sheesh! What a grouch. Pardon me for trying to help. Where's your suggestion?

I looked and looked and got frustrated. But, I thought you said you put in the "\Application Data\Sounds\" and it worked.
in post number 1 "apps/sounds" was referring to your "Correctly" posted location. and it did not work for me as i only put one wav file there and it only showed as a ring tone.

Use a 3rd party application. There is one on the wiki that will do this (in Programs Known to Work, called something like RJV Ringtone something or other). I would go get the link for you, but I feel lazy and don't really want to be snapped at if I say something you don't like.
Edit: I just got an email from my hosting provider that the server is down at the moment so check back tomorrow or something.
I still haven't figured out Scottb's post. He said he put them there and it worked. did warpdrive and I do something wrong? cause it doesn't work for us. Now, if you calling that "Snapped" i'm sorry.

You could've easily said something such as "Yeah I tried that. Thats what I meant by apps/sounds." Either way, you weren't polite, and people are less inclined to assist impolite people. I was just giving you a hard time, I could really care less if you snap at me, just don't expect any more help from me if you do.
Yeah, I edited my other post. Apparently my provider had 1/2 of their servers drop about 20minutes ago. Hopefully they'll have it up and running soon enough.
The pn 820 is a little different from most smartphones. You are correct to put ringtones in the Application Data\Sounds folder. Those will be picked up as ringtones. If you want to be able to assign a sound to events, you will have to edit the registry. HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\AllSounds. You will need to add the sounds to this key. I have placed these sounds in the windows folder so that I didn't have to add the path to the key.

I am just trying to put a &^%$# ring tone on this device.
I can see the Bell2.mp3 in the Application Data\Sounds folder when I use AS explorer. however, when I try to pick it from the sounds menu, it is not there.
Why should this be so dificult?
What the %$#@ am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Mark

I don't remember having to do this but I use a lot of wav files for ringtones. Check this link CustomSounds - Verizon Wireless PN-820 Wiki see if adding the ringtone to the registry helps. I don't have the phone with me today or I would check.
