Question 8 months....

After having this phone for 8 months, and dealing with its constant connection freezing, or windows freezing. My pn-820 died. Kind of wondering if anyone else had this happen. How mine died, in a matter of 6 hours, sitting on a nightstand, and charging. The battery connections corroded and the battery started to leak. After reading some posts on this forum, sounds like it might be hard to replace this phone.

If you bought your phone through Verizon it has a 1 year warranty so I would call them up and demand a replacement.

Verizon still offers this phone, at least according to their website and my local store. I've had mine right at 8 months, and the only hardware issue I've had (other than mediocre received voice quality) is corrosion on the charger port contacts preventing the phone from charging. I trimmed an eraser sliver, cleaned them, and all's well.

This isn't the first phone I've had that happen on (I live about 10 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.

Hi Bluetooth or anyone,

What do you mean an eraser sliver trim? How did you perform this trim? I have had this phone for about a year, I am near the ocean, and am having the same charging problem. If anyone can give me details of how to "clean" or trim the connection I'd be very greatful. I tried rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and a toothbrush etc with only slight improvement.

I ordered another supposedly slightly used PN-820 on Ebay in case this doesn't work out because I really like the phone a lot and want it to work out.

My company uses a broker to buy Verizon services or I could get it from them for $29 with a new in two agreement...

I think he meant that he cut a section of a pencil's eraser to fit inside the charging port on the phone and then rubbed the contacts to essentially clean them from any rust or corrosion. Actually a pretty simple task. I don't live near an ocean and haven't had those problems yet but I am keeping an eye on it now.

I have two of them(pn-820), plus extended battery and two car chargers, if someone is interested pm me. I thought I would keep one but I spose I would part with both.

Thanks Joshica I will try that trimmed eraser as a cleaner technic. I just recieved my, like new PN-820 with extras for $58 delivered, no contract and it looks great so far.

I plugged my old phone into the newer jack and it started charging like champion again. Might keep em both for that price for the excellent back-up that will provide. But still works fine!

Great phone, highly reccommended for anyone who wants a phone first and less of a PDA candy bar... Perfect for me because of my large database of contacts. I use a laptop placed on an ebay car mount for any real computing while on the road. As a dialer/contact holder/occasional PDA functions/ I have found no better for my situation.

Joshica's right; I took a Pink Pearl eraser, like they used to feed you in elementary school, trimmed a thin piece off with an X-Acto knife, and slid it into he connector and rubbed the contacts with it. Have had to do it once more since that post.

Thinkgeek.com sells them prepackaged now, glued to little sticks, as cell-phone charger port cleaners. Another wealth opportunity squandered - dang.
