device not recognized usb problem

i want to do the update to the pn 820 however my phone has been giving a usb not recognized for a long time, to get around that i used bluetooth active sync.
in order to do the update i need to plug in via the usb port per the directions.
any ideas on how to fix this? i just was able to sync it via bluetooth , so somehow the phone is working. i am plugging it directly into the desktop usb port, not using a multiplier.
i also changed the network advanced usb connection and still same device not recognized

I'm no expert with that matter, but you may need to uninstall and reinstall the ActiveSync software to try to reinstall the USB drivers for the phone/software. It sounds to me like that may be the problem. Troubleshooting issues like this without being in front of the computer are difficult. Good luck tho!

i updated to the newest activesync, it did work via th bluetooth update and sync, so i don't think it is the activesync. i remember having this problem about 6 months ago, i ended up going around it with the blue tooth syncing, but i dont think you can update the phone via bluetooth.
is there a usb driver got the 820, made the one i have is corrupted?

it doesn't reconize the phone as a usb device

PN-820 USB issue solved

Not sure if anyone had a solution to this issue, but I lucked into a knowlegable tech at Verizon (go figure) who had the simple solution. If the phone is not detected by USB cable, on the phone go to Start | Settings | Connections | Modem Link and make sure to deactivate that setting. Viola, the phone syncs with the USB cable!

Cheers!

Smile Try This

Mine was doing the saem thing; not responding to anything. I uninstalled the synch, went into Microsoft and uploaded the newest sycnch....and woolah! Like magic it works great. Try it. Oh, and while your there, go ahead and download the free trial of Onecare and cleanup your computer, then say thanks for not continuing the subscription. Do not include any ccard number, or anything, just go through the steps.

vista...

if you are using windows vista on your computer then activesync will do nothing. you need to install windows mobile device center instead.
