Say Buh-Bye to the PN-820

No point speculating about improvements, enhancements or anything else.

My PN820 died this week (7,8 and 9 keys plus upkey refused to work), so I called VZW about a replacement. They had troble finding one in stock or in the stores, and more ominously VZW has dramatically reduced the price to $60 -- usually the last thing they do before dumping the line.

This will leave their Smartphone strategy -- if, indeed, they have one -- in further disarray. With Motorola exiting the cell phone hardware business, no iPhone, and junky unknown brands virtually all they have to offer, I guess it is finally time to head over to AT&T. Though I will likely have to wait until this summer, when iPhone Version 2 comes out.

I have insurance on my pn-820, if they can't find them anymore, and if my phone were to be 'lost'. How would they replace it? Would they give me a credit towards another phone?

They offered me a Motorola Q, which I declined. They eventually found me another PN820 after looking for a while. I will stay with it for now, but will likely switch to AT&T and the new iPhone when it comes out this summer.

Did you try asking for a smt5800? I am going to try that when my pn820 dies. Neither one has an exposed keyboard.

I just called Assurion (phoneclaim.com) and they have the PN-820 in stock. The phone is now free online, so I'm sure by the time my PN-820 crocks they will have a comprimable model.

Since you get the phone through another company it doesn't appear that you can 'upgrade' your handset through them. They give you what they give you.
