The dub-ya

1. If you buy a used International edition, (like the ex-Rogers dub-ya I bought en Canada) you will not be married to ATT Witless and can instead can go T-mobile, as I have done. $30/mo for unlimited data alone, or $20/mo on top of a voice plan? Sweet! Lots of those on eBay used for US$200 or so.

2. There's a replacement cover which plugs into the earset jack, has a speaker & mike & allows you to use the phone without and earset. Much more convenient. Look for the Ternary Technologies Flip Cover for the Tungsten W.

the tree-yo

Smaller, cooler form factor than the TungW. try this;
Step 1: Put a Tungsten up to your ear like you're using it like a cell phone (which I'm guessing you could do if you got the replacement cover as mentioned in post #2).
Step 2: Feel your face turn red because of all the people looking at you funny because you're holding a PDA to your ear and talking to it.

Now try this:
Step 1: Put a Treo600 up to your ear like you're using it like a cell phone, no wait... it IS a cell phone. that's waht it looks like, and that's why its not going to attract negative attention.

More seriously, what do you intend to use it for? That could make a big difference as to which you'd prefer. Personally, I love the treo600.

And here's a non-inflammitory truth: it's less wide than the Tungsten, and therefore, fits better in your hand. If one handed operation is at all important to you, then you want the Treo.

Yeahbut

1. Treo screen is low res, 160x160. Dub-ya screen is 320x320, much better.

2. Treo 600 screen is too small. Given a chance of looking rediculous or going blind, I'll take looking rediculous any day.

3. When has any PDAphone user worried about looking rediculous?

4. The ATT Treo is locked to ATT. Waaay too spendy. Make sure to get a Treo 600 and service from T-Mobile in the States if you must have a Treo 600.

5. Headset jack at the *bottom*? Incredibly awkward.

Johnbartly,

I didn't really mean to bash, but was just trying to have some fun. I'll try to present good info so atifadam can make an informed decision.

And as I asked in my original post, What's the intended use?

As for your points from your last post:
1. True 320x320 screen *looks* better, sharper; but the 160x160 screen on the treo 600 is way brighter, and yet makes for longer battery life.

2. Treo's screen is physically smaller than the W, but still very viewable. the brightness of the screen makes it easy to read in a variety of lighting conditions.

3. To some people, looking rediculous may be a problem. Again, atifadam needs to decide that for himself.

4. Agreed. get an unlocked pdaphone, whichever model/brand you choose.

5. With horizontal beltclip cases, holsters, and the like, the headset jack is not awkward for me. But, yes, it is at the bottom, so one should consider how they will be carrying/using the unit and decide what's best for them.

Now a few other thoughts:

A. Processor speed. W: 33 MHz. T6: 144 MHz
B. Operating system. W: Palm 4.1.1 T6: Palm 5.2.1
C. Talk time: W: up to 10 hours. T6: up to 6 hours.
GSM Band: W: couldn't find it. Think it's dual, or maybe tri-band. This may or may not be important, if coverage in your area is good. T6: Quad Band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz).

D. Memory (RAM). W: 16MB. T6: 24MB.
E. Keyboard. Both have them. W is wider, T6 is narrower. T6 is backlit, don't think W's has backlighting, therfore harder to use at night.

That's all for now. I think atifadam needs to provide some input before I just ramble on and on any more.

Not been a problem to me. Never had any funny looks yet and I've been using mine for ages.

BTW, with a little time and a Dremil you can adapt the provided ear bud and cover to make the same audio cover for free.

TW is Tri-Band (900/1800/1900 MHz) 850MHz isn't widely used yet so this should not be an issue in most, if any, areas.

How I view the two

How I rate the two

backlit keypad is a simple but *very* important addition to the treo 600

treo 600 is a faster pda and has more memory, this is important for multimedia such as photos, mp3, video clips. The tungsten w struggles with multimedia

tungsten w is based on an older palmos. Like microsoft, software is really only developed and (meanfully) supported for the latest os.

treo has an integrated digital camera. It's important to some people!

screen is better on tungsten w as is battery life which is a plus if you're always on the move.

Tungsten w has many shortcomings which i've articulated on another thread, however this is mainly due to lack of support (in my opinion).

Conclusion. technically treo is better. however if it's mainly used as an organiser/pda the tungsten w is okay (as soon as it get's bluetooth headset support).

btw. I bought the tungsten w because it was half the price of a treo 600, and I didn't really need a camera or intend to use it for anything like mp3 or multimedia, but I wish I had known palm was not supporting it with bluetooth and wifi. (don't give me the arguement about no audio channels to expansion port, I strongly believe a bit of programming code by palm could easily do this).
