That webserver youre syncing your data to in cyberspace has a hardrive that will eventually fail too. Furthermore I cant imagine why someone would want 2500 superflous contacts in their phone. Im sure my calendar and contacts are safer on my desktop than they are on the internet. Once you put it out there you can never get it back! Plus the cost of storing all this data for millions of people is going to increase and/or come back to haunt you!

One of my clients told me they can not access our web hosting control panel with this phone. I would not consider using a phone with such limitiations. BTW where are specs on this phone Processor ram etc?? Is the soon to be released Palm pixi going to offer more of the same?

Now, we just hooked Palm-pre's and we had sync up and running in minutes without an issue.. With the right setup you can easily have push-sync up and running in minutes.. We use Zimbra network edition with the mobile sync option, so it mimics activesync/exchange push sync - 0 problems outa the gate..

no sync with pre? what?

i sure was excited to get my new Palm pre home. everything sounded great; the plan, the features, the upgrades.
i was even willing to try a completely new "P A L M".

but i didnt ask about syncing..............
i cant just place all my stuff out there on the web in some "my documents" bizzarro world.
what was wrong with my computer in the first place???
why would anyone rely IMPLICITLY on the web??
WOULD YOU RIDE IN AN AIRPLANE CONTROLLED BY A WEB-BASED SERVER??
the best part about Palm was it's open sourceness and my ability to be in control of My PDA.
now , im sorry to say, it's just a phone with a snazzy pda attached (sure makes the blackberry look smart!!)

AND you want me to give you all my contacts.
i no longer can privately contain my personal data?

I WILL NOT BE BORG

I had to reply to you because I loved your BORG comment.

It's like that is what people are wanting without fully thinking through the fact that once you put your data in cyberspace, it can't be removed and is opened to tampering alot more than local storage.

This is exactly what killed the Pre for me. I really liked the device but why in the world would I want all of my data floating around in cyberspace...NOT. For some it might be OK (although I can't imagine why). I like keeping my data private and in my possession. A simple backup or raid array keeps me solidly happy about my data security in the event of a hard drive failure.

Cheers!!

Are you really comparing a phone to an airplane? No one would go on a plane controlled by a web-based server. But, whether I live or die is not really dependent on how my phone syncs its contacts. They're two entirely different situations.

I guess you've now learned your lesson - do research on something you're going to be committed to for the next two years. You have only yourself to blame.
