The Tungsten W was PalmOne's (formerly Palm) first pdaPhone, and is still their only device that provides full phone and PDA functions. While the Tungsten W is a very good data device, the lack of an integrated headset mic and speaker (requires the use of a headset for phone calls) has hindered its market penetration as a pdaPhone. Of course, PalmOne will soon have a full line of pdaPhones when it completes the Handspring deal. But, there are a number of folks using the Tungsten W today, and for you PalmOne has released a software update that has a lot of new features:
- VersaMail 2.5.2 - now has features such as Auto Get mail with notification, Lotus Notes mail synchronization, URL launching, and many others
- Keylock - disables all but power key
- Always On - allows device to be connected, even when powered off
- LED Notification - no configurable
- Graffiti 2 - replaces orginal recognition software
- Mobile phone features - volume control when device is off, explicit call transfer, phonebook on SIM features, backlight off/screen on during call, improved speed dial, and more
- SMS features - incoming caller id, forwarding, recent numbers, and more
- Developer APIs - background connection support
- Other features - signal strength meter improvements, 5way navigator improvements, and more
