Originally posted by dwdod I assumed your sigh meant we lost. However I went to Cnet and, as of 1:00 PM (Eastern Time), there still was no winner announced.
I see no winner yet announced either. I think the sigh may be because this thread was moved into the "news" section, and updated "news" threads are not shown on several of the views that most members use for viewing recently updated threads. But it doesn't matter anymore since voting is closed
The note at the site says to check back at noon Pacific time for the results. That's in less than an hour. Then we have to begin the final push in the finals (I hope).
I can't believe it. Losing to a Nextel. We should all be ashamed of ourselves for letting this happen.
What is amazing is the margin of victory 60% (Nextel) to 40% (Kyocera).
Now, if Verizon had PTT in place it would be no contest as the walkie talkie feature could be in both. I believe the PTT will be a software feature that does not need a special piece of hardware.
No, the "sigh" before was for the fact that this thread too got moved to "News".
*sigh* Now THAT one was for losing. See, I TOLD you guys the Nextel fans were rabid.
Curses! If everyone who voted for us against the Treo, plus even a handful of Treo voters, had voted for us this time, we'd have beaten the Nextel. (Assuming of course that they didn't drum up more votes somewhere)
I wonder if Treo fans voted against us out of spite?
It's also interesting that the little LG beat the fancy Nokia sorta-smart phone.
In the final round, I've voted for the LG out of spite. Er, well, really it's to show support for Verizon. Yeah, that's it.
Originally posted by Robert K. I think those Nextel clones would've voted for the $20 set of walkie-talkies I saw at Wal-Mart this past weekend over a real phone like the 7135.
That is a good point. This is an apples and orange comparison since these phones do not appeal to the same consumers. The 7135 vs Treo and soon the 7135 vs the SGH-500 would be worthwhile races. Also, the 7135 wasn't even officially available so it is noteworthy that it came out so well.

It's got to have additional hardware. There's no button to push unless you use the Ok button... hey, there's a concept. It could even be a Palm app that uses VoIP. Maybe you're right. Anyone with access to the SDK can confirm or deny that this is even doable?
