The moment she turned off the phone, that should have clued you in. Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago. First someone picked up and then the phone was turned off. Called Sprint right away, tagged the phone stolen and swapped the number to a spare unit.
You better check your usage and make sure that lady was not trying to buy herself some time to use your minutes. If she actually used your phone to call some of her friends (their numbers will show up on your bill), you might even want to get the police involved and try to snatch her up.
