Eten P700 - When can I get it? :)

Eten corp was recently showing off its new PPC based smart phones at Computex. They released the Eten 330, and the 700. The 330 seems like its a little lacking and the little joystick seems cheap, but it is after all the economy model.

What I found really interesting was the specs on the 700:

http://www.computex.com.tw/news_arch...asp?index=5423

Intel® PXA250 400 MHz Processor
GSM tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz, GPRS Class B / Multi-slot 10
64K color transflective TFT screen
32MB Flash RAM/64MB SDRAM
Removable and rechargeable Li-Ion battery
Built-in SDIO card slot and Compact Flash Type I expansion slot

And according to the Eten's website, even more fun options are available.

http://www.etencorp.com/P700_Specification.html

SDIO + CF + Optional BT + Interface as USB Host, all on a PPCPhone. It doesnt have a camera, but i'd get over it as usually camera phones are more gimmick than anything else.

Now the only question is when are the US carriers going to have it, and where do I sign up?

You may be able to buy here

I found this phone on sale at Peripheral Corner http://www.peripheralcorner.co.uk/pr...oducts_id/239. The specs do look good. I emailed them to see if it is unlocked so I can use it on t-mobile US.

Did you purchase it for use in the United States? And if so, which carrier did you activate it with? Was it sim-locked?

Also, were you able to use a standard USB keyboard with it via the USB host? or does it need special PPC2k3 drivers?

Cause its either a toss up between one of these, or a O2 XDA II. But I'm not a real big fan of the O2's form factor. The extra memory would be nice, but then again, thats what SD cards are for.

Thanks

Did anyone hear if this phone is SIM locked?

I notice on the periphealcorner site you do not need to buy an O2 plan to get the phone.

I like the fact it doesn't have a camera since the resolution on a cell phone cameras isn't good enough to really do anything but e-mail.

This would be a better option than the price people are paying for the XDA II's

Thanks,

Jeff

Well, if you've been wanting to get one of these - this might be your answer...

http://www.convergentech.com/detail.aspx?ID=34

"Your SIM card is registered and provisioned by us so you will know that your account provisioned properly within T Mobile"

Evidently comes with SIM card ready to use directly from them, or I dont see why you couldn't use your existing T Mobile card.

Available from a US distributor that can activate an account and send it to you ready to go.

Enjoy

Eten P700

A funny thing happened when I tried to order the Eten P700 from Convergentech.com. I called them up, and placed an order over the phone. I was informed that there were two in stock. I requested overnight delivery and filled out the application for service.

The next day came and went with no delivery, so I called them up this morning to inquire about the delivery, and got a reply to the effect that there were problems with my credit card. I mentioned that this could not be the case since I have an existing account with T-mobile. I was then informed that the dealer was reluctant to sell the device since there were firmware issues with the device and he wanted to test the upgrade before selling the device. I was disappointed to say the least and wondered if the vendor was being pressured to not sell a sim-unlocked device.

I am impressed with this PdaPhone also. I noticed that it uses windows mobile 2003 for pocket pc, but not phone edition. Does this mean there is some other phone software installed? Has anyone purchased and used this pdaphone who can tell me if it is genuinely as good as it appears? Thanks....
