Your guide to Unlocking your mpx220 Cingular Phone

Here is the details of what I got from Erin Barnes on how to unlock my mpx220.

Atlhough I do not need to have my mpx220 unlocked, I thought I'd go find out anyway because I search the whole internet for mpx220 unlock codes and guess what? NONE has any idea on how to do it FOR FREE.. Everyone seem to want money AND go search ALL THE mpx220 forums, NONE will give you the information. NOT EVEN Cingular Forum.

But here it is....

Instructions:

How to enter a Subsidy Unlock Code - Motorola Last Updated: 00/00/2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This resolution describes the procedure for entering a subsidy unlock code into a Motorola handset.

Note:

The customer only has five (5) tries to unlock the phone.
If this process is unsuccessful five times in a row, the phone will be permanently locked to the Cingular network.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Motorola

Step
Action

1 Insert non-Cingular SIM card

2 Power on the handset

- wait a few moments allowing your phone to fully power up
- customer will be prompted to enter the unlock code

3 Enter unlock code

4 Press OK

- the handset is then successfully unlocked

==============================================

************** Email her at erinl.barnes@cingular.com and make sure you include all your Cingular information

a) IMEI
b) Name, Lastname
c) Reason for unlock code - You need your phone to travel with you worldwide *****************************

She will tell you that you will get your unlock code in two weeks but I got it in two days.

Yes it is true that the codes came from Motorola, BUT YOU STILL NEED TO GO THRU CINGULAR TO REQUEST THE UNLOCK CODE because if you call MOTOROLA, guess what? you will end up playing phone tag and the famous, call Cingular...

==============================================

Although Cingular claims that the later released mpx220 are all unlocked, this information is for the ones who's mpx220 are still LOCKED.....

Enjoy....

Just FYI, I got my first MPx220 in March of 2005 before they stopped selling them (right before), and I just did a XBM to get my second... My first one CAME unlocked, my brand new one is LOCKED, but cingular is sending me a unlock code.

Congratulations..

That's always something that Cingular can claim forver and to say that all the phone's they are sending are all UNLOCKED... which is not true at all...

Well, at least you are getting your new mpx220 UNLOCKED for FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

doooood

Please read the instructions carefully.

I doubt that you read the entire message on how to exactly unlock your phone.

Each phone will have a unique unlock code from Cingular.

So go read the instructions once again. It will tell you to email Erin Barnes of Cingular support. Tell her you need to unlock your phone.

You need to send her your IMEI number.

Actually, when I called her, she told me to wait for at least two weeks.

But hey don't give up... Email her again...

emailed her again, no response, I called customer service last week and they put in the request. The guy told me it would take 5 business days and it has been past the 5 days. I think i'm having the worst luck getting this unlock code for free.

Well, what can I say about Cingular?

I've been trashing Cingular's customer support since day 1 of me switching from Verizon.

Until this day, I still keep on banging my head as to why I changed over when I did not have 1 single problem with Verizon.

So its not your luck actually running out on you. It's just a natural occurence being a Cingular customer. Somehow customer satisfaction is on the bottom of Cingular's list... Verizon should buy them out..hehehe...

Take your back cover off, remove the battery and sim card. There is a label on the inside of your phone, the imei number usually starts with a 0 or a 8. When you call customer service, they have to send the form to have your phone unlocked, wait for a response to see if your qualified to have it unlocked then their technical department sends the unlock code, yes long process but that is to ensure those that take their phone internationally are scamming to get out of charges.
