Question Gmail from your MPx220?

I know others have gotten this to work, so there must be something I'm missing. First off, I have POP activated on my Gmail account for all mail. Now, the phone settings:

Your name: <my name>
E-mail address: <myemail>@gmail.com

User name: <myemail>@gmail.com
Password: <mypassword> (the one I use to log in on the web)
Domain: <blank>
Save password: <checked>

Server Type: POP3
Account name: Gmail
Network: The Internet

Incoming Server: pop.gmail.com (also tried pop.gmail.com:995)
Require SSL: <checked>
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com (also tried smtp.gmail.com:465)
Outgoing server requires authentication: <checked>

In Outgoing server settings:
Use different password: <not checked>
Use SSL: <checked>

Download the following: 3 days worth, first 1000 bytes

Never connect automatically (I'll probalby change this, but I wanna get it working first)

That's it ... how does that compare to your settings, if you've gotten it to work? This is driving me nuts!

Well, I managed to figure this out. For future reference, the above settings are correct. However, I found that I had to retrieve my mail via POP3 from a PC-based client (I used Outlook Express) the first time. After I did that once, I can retrieve my email from my phone with no problems.

I had no reason to enable POP3 on my Gmail account until using the phone ... so I'd never checked it via POP3 before.

Anyway, information that may be useful to someone else.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that Hotmail provides POP access. At least, not with a free account. Gmail does provide POP access with their free webmail.

If you do have POP access on your Hotmail account:
1) Start Messaging on your MPx220 (Start -> Messaging)
2) Select an account (Text Messaging, for example)
3) Menu -> Options -> Account Setup
4) Menu -> New
5) Fill in the server settings and such with the settings that Hotmail provides.

The phone should (as far as I know) work with any POP mail. I know there are utilities on the 'net that allow you to run a POP server on your home PC that grabs your Yahoo! mail and makes it available via POP (without paying for a paid Yahoo account). Maybe something similar exists for Hotmail?

Gmail email scrwwed up

Does anyone have something like this happen when they collect Gmail on their 220: I have all the pop info set up, it seems to work fine, but it doesn't collect automatically. In addition, the dates on the emails are backwards (euro style day/month). Every time I try to collect mail, it downloads EVERYTHING in my Inbox (286 emails at last count), rather than just today's, or last three days, depending on what I set.

Anyone else experience this weirdness?

I used these setting and the first time I checked Gmail it worked just fine.

But since then I keep getting this message "The following errors occurred while sending and receiving email: An error occured while downloading messages. Verify that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again."

Can someone tell me what is going on and what I need to do to fix this ?

Thanks !

Hotmail

For Hotmail, I signed up for Mobile MSN aka Pocket MSN (once only fee) and that gets me my Hotmail, Mobile Home and MSN Messenger.
I didn't try to figure out any other way ...

GMail

Well I didn't try to get automatic Gmail; I use the IE to access the Gmail mobile and haven't had any issues such as you described ...I don't need the instant notification ... but the POP setup looks to be right ... the download setting might need changing; the fonts and language I don't know there ...

regards

I found out what was wrong. I have "Tweaks2k2.Net" and one of the options that I has checked was "Force Off SSL (Speed Up POP). I unchecked this box, shut the phone off, and turned it back on (this changed the registry). Now it works great !

WEB Gmail Access

Actually, I have set up my Gmail account on my mpx220 for almost 6 months now but is always not consistent at all when it comes to downloading messages and has other issues.

But since Gmail has setup their mobile web based gmail access, I now just go to my IE and added my Gmail account on my favorites and presto instant access to my Gmail account.

Plus, I do not need to download all my emails into my mpx220.

Try it out. Log on to http://www.gmail.com on your IE and Gmail will re-direct you to their mobile web based.

It is much faster PLUS you are guaranteed to get your emails to the most recent email rather than hoping and thinking if you have an email in your inbox.

Try it and you will love it

Contacts on Gmail

Actually, I forgot another important aspect of the Web Based Gmail Access.

Gmail has done a good job on their Web Based Gmail Access.

Not only that it is fast in accessing your emails, BUT I thought that the most important thing that they did was the ease when it comes to composing a new email.

The good thing here is that you have access to all your Gmail Contacts when you access your Gmail account using the web based Gmail Access. Its all there. It is so easy.

So there you go... Don't say that I did not share this information with you all.

Trust in mooker and your Gmail experience will be a good one
