I got my-unlocked mpx200 a few days back and placed my T-mobile SIM in it. I've tried to configure it to access the internet using the above settings but get the same message: "Error. Unable to connect. Please verify that airplane mode is off and you have network coverage, then try again."
I've checked to make sure airplane mode is off but I always get this same message. Any help will be greatly apprciated.
Thanks, Jawad

The only other thing that I did was to flash the firmware with a version from the U.K that enables tri-band and fixed some other things like caller-ID. Did you sign up for the data package with T-Mobile. THe $5/month package is all I have and mine works fine.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have a 'talk & text' plan that says T-Zones 1mb included. I was able to surf the web with my Sony T68i previously (that's where I got my SIM from), so I would think I should be able to access the internet even now. I've googled for this error message but don't seem to find any hits other than when Texian mentioned the same error in this thread. Any ideas anyone? Thanks, Jawad

Bruno,

Where did you get the 'other' firmware from? Is this something you can share? How did you manage to flash it, using USB cable?

Also using the:

*** In explorer, create a favorite and use it to navigate to TZones
*** Name: T-Zones
*** Address(URL): wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com

settings that you provided, I am able to go to the T-Zones website (?) but unable to surf to any other site, eg. yahoo.com. Do you create a bookmark within the T-Zones website to surf to other websites or do you just a new URL to your 'Favourites' to access that site? Not having luck either way but at least there's been some development.

Thanks, Jawad

You just flash it with the USB cable that came with the phone. Only takes a couple of minutes. Apparently this is a non-branded version of the firmware before ATT got hold of it and made changes - disabled some things. This also enables tri-band and SMS.

There was a link on the web somewhere where you could download it then they were forced to take the link down I think. If you post me your email on this site, I'll contact you direct.

For your other question, I just create favorites within explorer to go to the other sites.

Thanks for your reply. As for internet access, I've scoured the web for any new information but no luck. Strangely I can access the wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com T-Zones site but cannot access http://www.yahoo.com. Am I doing something wrong? As I mentioned I was able to access www.yahoo.com using my old T68i phone (text only - phone limitation I think) so I assume I have the right T-Mobile service options. The T-Zones site isn't much help and updationg bookmarks there to point to www.yahoo.com also won't help.
Thanks, Jawad

UPDATE: Finally Got Through to Yahoo.com . Used these settings which are almost identical to what's already been posted here:

T-Mobile USA

GPRS CONNECTIONS:
Description: T-Zones GPRS
Connects to: The Internet
Access Point: wap.voicestream.com
(or internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com )
User Name:
Password:
Primary DNS: 216.155.165.50
Secondary DNS: 216.155.165.50
IP Address:

PROXY CONNECTIONS:
Description:T-Zones Proxy
Connects From: The Internet
Connects To: WAP Network
Proxy (name:port): 216.155.165.50
Type: WAP
User name:
Password:

Settings-Data Connections:
Internet Connection: T-Zones GPRS
WAP Connection: T-Zones GPRS

INTERNET EXPLORER > MENU > OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS:
Tick 'automatically Detect Settings'

Only difference was I think I set my Internet Explorer Options > Connections > Select Network to 'The Internet' in addition to checking the 'Automatically detect settings' box.

All's well that ends well. Hope I can get that firmware. Thanks for all your help Bruno.

Jawad

Hey....not sure if anyone answered your question yet or not...but I had the same problem as yours. I took the phone into a store to get it fixed...and they told me to just reflash the firmware.

I tried it...and it worked.

Let me know if you want the firmware. Below is what the upgrade does for the phone.

I purchased a link to the firmware on ebay...and it worked for my phone. I will however not take any responsibility if does anything to yours though. Sorry.

Let me know.

Features:
- It allows you to use all 3 GSM bands (including GSM900 that is locked in MPx200 sold by AT&T Wireless)

- It removes all operator add-ons (like mMode)

- It adds MMS messaging (which AT&T had removed on their build)

- It adds third party camera support (which AT&T had removed on their build)

- Improves battery life issues*(worked for most people with this issue)

- Improves reception (worked for most people with this issue)

- Unlocks new functions and features including the Camera support!!

NSxtasy,

Thanks for the offer, but I'd gotten the firmware from another helpful user here. It definitely improves on what AT&T gives with the phone.

But I'm having another problem now. My phone recently went dead after exhausting the batteries. recharging would not help and I finally had to do a master reset and reflash the firmware. After re-setting my GPRS connections as listed in this post (and as I'd done previously), whenever I now try and connect to a web page, my phone first shows that it is 'Dialling', then 'Finding site' and finally 'Connecting'. It previously never 'Dialled'. Does anyone know what is happening?

Thanks,

Jawad

Talking Tri-Band Firmware Upgrade Link/MPX200 ?

Hi,

If anyone has the link, or knows where I can find the firmware to enable the 900mhz band on my MPX200, I would really appreciate it. Also, a quick question. I recently purchased an MPX200 locked to att, and unlocked it myself for use through tmobile. I signed up for tzones, and the internet function works just fine (I can browse sites, etc.) My question is, should I have set the gprs settings to t-mobile, or does it matter if it worked fine when I first tried?

Many Thanks,
dbond

Send a message via AIM to kaos2300

I have just purchased an MPX200 and I am trying to get it to work here in Florida. I have followed very carefully all of the great instructions on the thread and still cannot access outside T-Zones. Also when I tried to use "Download Fun" it told me that the ring tones were not supported to try back later. Please if anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Also when I go to the MMS Setup there are more fields there and I am not sure I am doing it right.

You might want to try calling T-Mobile data support and ask them to IM you the data file setting. They don't officially support the MPX200 but they will generally assist you in setting it up. They did the same for my new P900.
