I'm in the same boat except when I plug in the usb cable my laptop locks up and must be rebooted! I also received a BSOD related to the USB Bug Error.

I gave up and uninstalled Activesync 4.5. The bummer is that I would like to charge the phone from the sync cable and also install some apps via active sync. No such luck.

What OS on your PC? After you re-installed the AS, please go to restore on your PC IF you are using WIN XP. Remove the battery from the Q, leave it off for one minute, put it back in and then try syncing.
Did you delete ALL files related to the OLD AS program?
(If you are using Vista, never mind about restore)
Make sure that you can make a phone call first thu Q before you try to sync. Get your *228 done and then make call and then sync.

I uninstalled and reinstalled 10 times. I also deleted the file folder in the program files directory. I hard reset the phone a few times as well in addition to removing and reinstalling the USB drivers...no luck. Now when I even plug in the phone to the USB port my laptop locks up and I have to reboot. BSOD is not fun seeing either. Kind of burned out on trying to fix this and is a real downer since I can't sync or use that port to charge the phone.

I had the same problems when I upgraded from AS 4.2 to AS 4.5. I gave up and reinstalled AS 4.2, works fine.
See if you can find and install AS 4.2

ok, now that i got all that working, is there any way to wirelessly sync my device when i'm away from my computer? i thought there used to be an app called wireless sync or something like that. i'd like to sync my phone if i'm on a trip (i have no laptop) or something like that just to backup the phone.

Wireless Sync does exist for the Q and for many people works great. I personally like to use a hosted Exchange Server instead. Exchange has been designed to work very well with the Q for push wireless syncing.

I recommend www.etgroup.net. For $8.00 per month I have gotten great service and very reliable syncing.
