My employee had a Q from Verizon but hated it. He said it froze alot and was very slow.
He now has a Blackberry and loves it.
Today he let me play with the Q. I really like the size but am very concerned about it's performance. His isn't on now for phone but I've been playing with it today and will tonight also.
What are the advantages to switching from my 6700. I'd like to hear from someone who has had one for awhile now.
Is it really slow? Does it freeze alot?
He said he had to close all programs to get any use from it at all.
Is there a new and improved over this one?
It seems to take awhile to boot up.
date code is 2706. He also said battery ran down alot and he isn't really a heavy user.
Any help would be appreciated.

I switched about a month ago from the 6700 to the Q.
The battery died very quick, the unit froze all the time, shut down on its own, and had to be reset 4+ times a day. After 1 week I took it back to my dealer and got a new Q.
TOTALLY different story now.
I power use my Q, and only charge it at night. I only use the standard battery (to keep it small), and I have yet to reset this new unit.
I had to get 1 lemon, but this new one ROCKS!
It's a bit of an adjustment going from a touch screen to none, but you get used to it quickly.
Are you saying you are glad to make the switch from the 6700?
I don't use wi-fi that much but I don't want any regrets.
My Sprint guy wants my 6700 in trade and it works flawless but it feels like a brick with the external battery.
Thanks for the reply as I will make a decision tomorrow.

The Q did freeze a lot when it first came out. However last December, Motorola sent out an update patch which fixed that issue. It is very stable and I consider myself a "power user" and only reset it once every few to keep it perky...
The only thing the Blackberrys for Sprint or Verizon do at this time is email and phone for the most part..you are really comparing apples and oranges when comparing the Blackberry to the Q.
In order to further simulate its big brother operating system, the Pocket PC version of windows which is on the 6700, you need to tweak it a little. Not that its not cool out of the box, but once you get it set to me it is an unbeatable piece of technology. I am selling one for Verizon which wont help you because you are a Sprint Customer, however you can check out my ad on ebay which has a list of all the tweaks you need to trick out the Q. It is add # 160104628195
The Q is great. I had a 6700 and i don't miss it as much as i thought I did. The Q is simple and easy to get used to. I thought I would miss the touch screen (sometimes I do when I'm on the internet; it was nice to touch what you wanted instead of having to scroll) but I quickly got used to the scrolling. Wi-Fi is the only feature they "really could have used on this phone. On the 6700 I could use the Wi-Fi for internet and be on the phone at the same time (with sprint) and never had to worry about missing a call. I would say overall the Q is a better phone. I don't have the speed issues some people talk about, though I have had to turn it off and then on because of programs freezing, but nothing is perfect. I hope CDMA get a version of the new Q9 that includes Wi-Fi like the T-Mobile Dash.
How is it w text messages? Does it stream the messages so you can see the whole conversation or is it like the 6700 where you can only see the last text?
I never turn off my 6700. At the end of the day I put it on the charger.
Can you do this with the Q?
With the 6700 you just touch the today screen and the menu comes up.
How do you access this on the Q?
Can you do hacks yet? I have alot on the 6700 to speed it up and the MMS pic hack too.
How good is the edvo? I use Slingbox daily so has anyone used this?
Sorry but I wasn't able to get to the Sprint store today but I plan on going tomorrow.
Many have said the Q gets reset many times daily. Some say it takes a couple to get a good one.
Are there any date codes for the good ones?

There was a third party app for threaded sms but it no longer works
The power is the same on the q as the 6700 as far as not being able to turn it off
There are a zillion hacks you can do just like ppc..MMS is available on the Verizon Q but Sprint for some reason has disabled it
EVDO works the same as the 6700...The Q you will get today may not have the most current software and I suggest visiting the MOTO site before you start tweaking it to ensure you have the latest software
OK...I got one!
They let me use one for the weekend and I must say...pretty neat!
A couple of questions...This one has Google maps and it zoomed to my house.
Is that standard on all of them?
It seemed like I had to "KILL" some programs or it was pretty slow.
Besides setting the screen to sleep is there a hard button to turn just the screen on or off?
So far I'm leaning on making the change but I don't want to be fooled if I need extra software.
I was surprised how i really don't miss the touchscreen but the MMS hack which I have now will be greatly missed.
I hope they come up with something.
Any help would be appreciated. I basically am asking what's in the box. Programs, cases, chargers, etc...

Press and hold the email/sms button at the extreme lower left corner.
Another quick tip, turn on key lock by pressing home-home-space.
I just switched from the xv6700 myself and I don't miss it so far. To me the biggest advantage the Q has over the 6700 is that it has buttons for dialing. I don't think I will ever buy another pda phone without at least the numeric key pad again (unless apple makes a cdma iPhone ).

I can honestly say that I am liking the Q a lot better than the 6700. First off, it picks up a signal WAY better than the 6700, and it has a better phone to boot. I hated the way the phone keypad was touchscreen on the 6700. Anytime you wanted to enter information while calling, it went into a submenu of contacts, etc; very frustrating.
I thought I would miss the touchscreen, but honestly, it hasn't bothered me one bit due to the D-pad and the thumbwheel. That may be a bigger deal for some folks, but the stylus was always dropping out of the 6700, so I was using the stick to select anyway. I can get to anything on the Q that I did on the 6700, and sometimes: faster.
Form factor: wow, this is where the big difference was for me. I can use both hands, or just one to text, call, etc. I couldn't do that with the 6700 at all. Slimmer? signinficantly in this case. The Q goes in a pocket, while the 6700 had a permamently on-duty holster.
Things I view on the Q actually look better than they did on the 6700. Finally, I have the Alltel-grey verzion with the rubberish coating on it so it hasn't scratched yet, despite being dropped on cement. The 6700 carried battle-scars from just bumping into things, and the plastic was not colored through and through; it looked very ugly just a while after purchase. That to me, is a true shame for a device that expensive.
Now, both share drawbacks; picture messaging should be an ENHANCED version on both of these, instead of DISABLED. Battery life could be better for both machines. The extended battery on the Q really isn't that much of an extension, I guess due to size.
I'm not near as happy with my Q yet, I still have and use the 6700 on another line of service. The 6700 is much much more usable one handed in my opinion, I rarely pull out the keypad, unless its to actually type a email, or text. Plus the 6700 has much more functionality being a full ppc and not a watered down version of WM5. I still need to work on tweaking the Q tho before I take it back and get a refund, some things I am working on are getting PIE to actually work like a browser, I dont use favorites so i hate the fact that PIE opens to favorites on the Q, I dont like the phone app for the Q, I'm wondering if there are skins or something for it like the 6700 (eTen).
Right now I wouldnt recommend it to someone that has a 6700 unless you really want the smaller form factor, which is why I wanted it, I mean I want to like this thing, but so far it isnt doing it for me.
I would like to try flashing a full version of WM5 on to this thing, anyone think that is possible?
PatrickCarter no there is no way to flash a full wm5 to the Q. Each edition of Windows Mobile has to be tailor fitted to the phone it's going on. In other words you couldn't even flash the WM5 for the Samsung i730 to the i830 which are almost identical phones.

a little off topic but how do you get to zoom in on your house, also my Q will be here on wed.
Made the switch from Sprint 6700 to Sprint Q yesterday. So far no regrets--I got frustrated waiting for the 6800 and got the Q as a "go-between". FYI SlingPlayer is great on the Q (w/EVDO coverage). I don't miss the stylus a bit.
i as well made the switch from ppc-6700 to the moto Q. loving it so far. The motorola Q is way more of a phone then the 6700 was, and thats what i needed. getting used to a smaller keypad but im gettting there. loving it so far.
I can today report great results with SiriusWM5 and the Motorola S9 headset with the Sprint Q. Everything just works without hacking. Far less powerful than the PPC phones, but less hassle, too.

OKay, I jumped the gun and Bought the MOTO Q for $79.99 was still stuck in my current PPC6700 plan so i just got a new number and plan and still got the phone cheaper
I am praying this phone can deliver. I was sick the the huge 6700 and the crap phone aspect of it... I never used WiFi as EVDO was good enough for my laptop tethering
Hopefully I will have a good report on this phone in a week or 2
