Does using PDAnet on the Q escape Sprint's tether charge?

I can't seem to find a definative answer on this anywhere...

As I understand it, the native DUN on the Q is blocked by sprint unless you pay their BS tethering subscription. I tried connecting the same way I do with my 6700 and no dice.

Before I go paying for the PDAnet software, can anyone tell me for certain if this will work on the Q with my unlimited data plan and no "phone as modem" subscription, with sprint?

no charges- PdaNet simply allows you to use the Broadband network your already paying for as a modem. The fact that Verizon and Sprint are allowed to charge twice for the same service is ridiculous.

PdaNet works great but I suggest you move it from the start up folder after you install it into the programs folder. It automatically starts itself everytime you reboot the phone otherwise and you have to manually shut it down

The CDMA carriers charge for DUN because it uses different and more expensive network hardware & bandwidth.

While handheld data isn't proxied by the carrier and re-served in a shrunken format (like the old Treo browsers), it does go through a gateway that compresses data before it gets to your handset. Paying for DUN bypasses that compression & uses (and costs) more bandwidth.

PDAnet tricks the carrier into thinking it's using handheld data access & then passing it to your computer. It works, but it's the same compressed and slightly slower data that your handheld would get.

Alright then, what about disabling the Modem NAI within the Q??

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK! I HAVN'T TRIED THIS YET, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE HOW TO DISABLE THE PAM CHECK!

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Motorola\DUNServer
Enabled
Change to 0

Re:

Hey Everyone,

In reference to this discussion about PdaNet... Has anyone tried "USB-MODEM?"

Here is the link to the program.

Treo USB Modem

I wasn't sure if it accomplished the same thing...ie, no extra data charges for DUN.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

USB-Modem

I use this with Sprint and my Mogul 6800 with the correct effect.

I'm wondering about it also for a Moto Q. BH
