HELP!!! Sprint Moto Q Black Screen of death?

Ok, got the Sprint Q a few days ago and all has for the most part been well. Or I least that's what I thought. Last night I went into On Demand, to see what that was about, it updated my .net framework, then ran fine.

Eventually, as people do, I went to bed. Woke up today and went to reach for the phone and it was off (it was on the charger all night). Turned it on and it turned itself off again. After a couple of iterations of this......it the went into the following black screen and will not come out.

Motorola Flash Mode
Bootloader Version:
BOOT_C03.05.00R_MPAP

Please Connect The USB cable.

I did...under XP and windows doesn't recognize it.

I garner this is a flash mode but haven't the slightest idea of where to get the post production flash image. Unfortunately, I can't call sprint (don't have another phone at my disposal right now), which I guess means a trip to the store.

However, does anyone have any idea how to get out of this flash mode and see if I can get it to hard reset with the center/red button thing?

Also, does anyone know a link to a post-production image for the Q?

Thanks!!

I don't have the flash screen, however, I experience issues like this. I love the Q and will keep it, but Sprint needs to fix some issues. I have the following problems:

Q won't wake up
After a call is over and you hit end, it won't drop the call.
Data connection goes non-existant
randomly locks up

These are most of the issues I have. All are solved by popping the battery out and restarting. I plan on limping along until an update is out since I love this thing too much. And battery life is awesome compared to my 6700.

Funny how Sprint can screw up an otherwise very good phone. Sounds like the original Verizon software.

I am still awaiting my replacement from Sprint....i had posted in another thread that there is NO support in the stores for this yet and not expected until February or so.

I was really happy with it for the few days it was up and running but being very careful of what I installed on it. It is a great device and until the black screen thing I was really happy that it appeared Sprint hadn't screwed it up. Oh well....so much for wishful thinking. But I like skippyrg will wait for the ROM update because of the device.

Has anyone heard of a expected date for a 6800 release yet?

Sprint Moto Q - Motorola Flash Mode

I had the exact problem described at the top of this thread by TheNog. My phone slipped into "MOTOROLA FLASH MODE". This is just a black screen with white text; it looks like old computer DOS mode. If you plug in the USB, the screen just turns on and off, yet the phone never moves out of Flash Mode. (This Flash Mode is what Verizon customers are using to update the device software. The Sprint Q is so new that no software update is out yet from Motorola.)

I talked to Sprint and they had no information on this issue. The Sprint Rep told me to go to a Sprint store. Don't bother. I called Motorola Q Support directly (877-331-6456 x2216). The MotoQ support rep asked me to do a hard reset (i.e. with the battery installed and power off: press the red power button and silver middle button simultaneously and hold). This hard reset did nothing.

The Moto rep said that this phone was "defective from the factory", that the phone should not be in software update mode, and that I should ask Sprint for a replacement.

I called Sprint and told them what the Motorola rep said; I currently have a replacement Q on its way from Sprint.

POSSIBLE CAUSE?: As TheNog describes above, I too used the "Get On Demand" application. "On Demand" asked to update .NET, I allowed this to happen and it wasn't long after that the phone slipped into Flash Mode. Now I can't say that "On Demand" or the .NET update caused this issue, but just in case I will NOT use "On Demand" OR update .NET Framework on my new Q. I'll wait it out for a while.

Good Luck!

Did you by any chance have Facade 120 installed? I received my replacement and all seemed well yesterday, then went to bed and the phone wouldn't wake up when I picked it up. I had unplugged it from the the charger and hit the power button.....it booted to the sprint screen like 3 times, then I took it and plugged it back into the charger and it finally came back up with a main battery warning....apparently when it went to sleep it stopped charging.

Thanksfully, I was able to do a master reset (thereby removing Facade from it) and it now is happly hummin along, however, it will not recognize any of my changes to the power managment properties. ie...setting the screen to go blank after a minute instead of 30 seconds, etc..

Since the phone is considered pre-production still, even though it is shipping from the website, there is zero support in the store for it.

As far as the ringers go, if you just copy those into /Applications/Sounds directory they work fine without the .net upgrade.

I only had the phone a day and didn't have a chance to install anything except give that On Demand a try. But now that you mention it.... The first night I had it I charged the device with the AC adapter overnight. The battery never fully charged, and I got a low battery warning the next day. I had made some slight adjustments to the power management only in regards to the backlight. Very interesting.

Have you been able to fully charge the battery since removing Facade?

Yes the battery has been fully charged, however, it seems as if there is some sort of setting that needs to be changed so that the phone doesn't suspend itself. I think it may be in setting the display timeout which I have set to never. Just setting the backlight settings to shut off the display. We shall see if that works. I currently have it plugged in and it is now sitting here with a blank screen, I am going to try and wake it in a few hours and see what happens.
