My Q was working perfecly up until the last few days. I can't for some reason get my Q to play any sounds (Player 10 or in the settings) except... when a call comes in, email all that works fine. But if i go to the settings and try to change the ring tone i can't preview the sounds it just will not play. NOW the funny part is if i hook up my bluetooth ear piece everything works just fine. I have searched and can't seam to find anything that could be doing this, Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Sounds like you may have inadvertantly lowered your device volume using the jog wheel. You should be able to reset your volumes throuh the Profile Setting editing tools.
Sadly this does not solve the problem. I have reset all profiles back to normal and sill the same issuse, All MP3's, XM Radio, and in the settings/sound area if i ask it to play my ring tone it doesn't work unless i have my bluetooth ear on or if someone calls me or email/text come in it will play it at that time.
When you are on the home screen, hold down the jog dial button until you see "Earpiece Volume". Then, you should be able to move the jog dial up and you will have sound again

Thanks,
I have the same exact problem and would hate to do a hard reset in order to fix this bug. Please let me know if you found an answer other then hard reset. Thanks
I experienced the exact same problem you describe in the original thread. No sound from any application except for incoming calls. I tried multiple soft resets with no results. I even tried adjusting the volume from the homescreen by holding down the jog dial......nothing. I eventually gave up.
A few days later, the sound came back on. I don't know what changed, but it's still working today. I think it's a software bug. If your sound doesn't came back after a couple of days, I would suggest getting a replacement.
My sound never came back over a couple of days. Talked with Verizon and the only cure we found was the Master Reset. With active sync it only took me about 10 mins to get everything synced back up and my settings back. If this keeps happing I will plan on returning it, but after the Master Reset I have yet to have any issues in the two weeks since i reset it (Knock on wood).
Dude, I am having the same problem. My first Q, all SOUNDs went out. Now I am on my second Q, and the keypad sound is already gone. This is BULL****! Please let me know if you find any updates on this issue, ill do the same. Thx.
The Q certainly gets an F due to the audio problems.
Every week I have had to perform a master reset on this device to keep the audio working correct. For a device that is built and main source of promotion is it's multimedia capabilty this is a real problem that Motorola needs to serious gete busy on.
And Verizon should cease promotion of the Q until it is resolved.
Nice box but completely worthless if a master dump is always needed. One gets tired of performing an activesync in their data and reinstall the programs. And as always it happens when you are away from the computer ypu sync too' so that you find it a useless to use fr business
MIne is doing the same thing. The call volume is good but I could not get much volume out of Windows Media player. For some reason it was about 1/3 of the call volume. There has to be a way other than master reset to fix this but I cannot find it.
I had turned up the volume all the way while on a call, played with the profile settings without success. I tried it while NOT on a call, used the wheel and it worked. Does not make sense.... The sound sure is BUGGY!
In-call, not in-call, speakerphone, headset all have independent settings. Each profile has sub-settings such as ring volume, alarm volume, notification volume, system sound volume. These all have an "off" setting as well. Profiles do change on the fly affecting overall settings. Media player has it's own volume independent of the speaker volume.
I'm not sure buggy would be correct. Maybe flexible.
Just did the Verizon ROM update and now all the Moto Q / Jabra JX10 headsets have no audio accept for some system beeps. I tried a hard reset / repaired and still no luck. The BT headset pairs fine and the phone thinks its all fine but no audio in or out of the headset. Anyone else have this issue? or a solution?
This same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I called VZW and asked them what I should do. The only option was a Master Reset of the phone. It solved the problem. Of course, I lost everything that wasn't synced to my PC, including email account setup parameters. So you'll have to go back in and set everything up, as well as reload any files you may have had on the phone.
You get to the reset selection by Start > System Tools > Master Reset

I have the same issue and I just did a master reset. No help. Voice in and out does not work to the Jabra JX 10. The earpiece recieves an incoming call signal and it activates the voice recognition in the phone. Very stange. Any other ideas?
I was so excited. I loaded Pocket DVD Wizard, and succesfully placed "Robots" onto my Q. I was very excited to impress our 2 year old with the video...until I hit play...no sound! A few days prior, I noticed that the voice command prompts had also stopped. I thought I had tried everything...until I came to this site. Noah's advice to press in the jog dial worked! Thanks!!!
By the way, of all DVD conversion programs, Pocket DVD Wizard is SO easy to work with. I wasted hours trying to follow instructions on the Pocket Movie site, and finally found Pocket DVD Wizard today. After four or five clicks...I had a DVD converted to a WMA file...and placed it on my Q.
For me, noah82 tip worked very well : Press the side botton until the volume bar is shown, and then turn the volume up. Unfortunatly in the first time the sound problem happen I didnīt read the tip and "reset" my moto q... Never more!!
