Disable shutter sound in camera

Is there any way to disable the shutter sound in the camera. I have looked thru all the settings that I can find, and I tried to delete the shuttersound.wav file from Windows (it apparently is stored in ROM). I know this shouldn't be such an annoyance to me, but it just seems stupid. Why have a shutter sound on a digital camera? To me it seems like adding a chika - chika sound from an old 8 mm film projector to the video settings.

The camera sound is to prevent people from being a peeping tom.

I don't mean to disparage Pekkle here, but please somebody tell me that just isn't so. How does that stop anyone from being a Peeping Tom (or even taking unwanted photographs)? It might (and I emphasize "might") give you away as taking a picture, but it surely isn't preventing you from looking. I really don't mean any disrespect to Pekkles. I am sure that this might have been someone's reason for including the sound, but that hardly seems like any kind of real discouragement.

Same reason why they have a beep go off every few seconds when recording.

Well, I honestly don't want to be encouraging anyone to do anything illegal or immoral, but I did find the answer to this question. If this is inappropriate, please remove.

Samsung i760 camera shutter sound

Just in case anybody needs to know, i just figured out the reg hack to shut off the camera shutter sound on your Samsung i760, dont know if it was previously posted but i was searching for hours, until i decided to search the registry in my phone and found the reg key...so here it is, sorry if it was posted already.

HKCU/Software/Samsung/Camera and change the ShutterSound value from 0 to 1
