Now do the same thing (send and e-mail to yourself) this time after viewing on your PDA, delete it from you PDA and do a send and recieve from the PDA. (this will remove it from your server).
Now go to your PC and check for e-mail. That e-mail will not showup becuse it was removed for the server by the PDA.

IF you delete it form the PDA it should remove from the server. If you want to keep just the last few days on the pda you can set that up. Am i missing something?

When you setup an account (POP3 or IMAP4) or change an account on the Q (or any WM device), you will get a window (view) that will ask you:

Download the following messages:
(the following choices are available)

Today's messages
Last 3 days of e-mail
Last 5 days of e-mail
Last 7 days of e-mail
Last 30 days of e-mail
All messages

Just set the answer to Last 3 days of e-mail (or one that is more appropriate for your needs), and you will only have that on the Q. The server will have all messages.

Rob,
Going one step further... I assume if one check's "all messages" that you are really only downloading "new messages" or "messages you haven't read" yet. Is that correct? Thanks.
Jeff

No, actually it will sync all messages (that occurred within the range of days specified) in the folders you have set up to sync for IMAP4. New messages will create a new message tone and the mail icon, but read messages will still sync. For POP3 (which I have not used as much on WM), it should sync what is in the Inbox folder, since I believe that is the only folder that actually syncs with POP3.

Rob, how and where do you limit the number of days?

I don't have a POP3 or IMAP4 account setup, so I will give the New Account setup. However, the goal is to edit your exiting account if you have one setup.

Goto Outlook E-mail, then the Menu soft key, then Options, New Account, and you will be put into a wizard that will step you through setting up an account. As you hit the next key after answering questions, you will be taken through several screens. You will eventually come to the a screen that will ask the question "Download the following messages:" and have a combo box with the choices listed.

When you edit an existing account, you have the same screens, but you can simply press the next key since the answers to the questions will already be there (I just can't remember how to edit an existing account).

Doesn't seem that you can edit the Outlook account, however. And I'm not sure that you have access to the settings in that account. And that seems to be the account that Wireless Sync uses.

The settings for WS or Activesync/Exchange Inbox are done with those programs. Activesync/Exchange is set in the Tools>Options>Inbox settings. It allows the same choices for the number of days, etc. I have not used WS in a long time, so I can't remember how to set those settings.

I have now confirmed after several days of testing that email just vanishes from the Q. I have the Q set to retrieve email from my POP server every 15 minutes. I delete some messages (SPAM) and try to keep some messages. I even respond to messages (send) from the Q. Yet at the end of the day there is nothing in the sent folder and most if not all of the email in the in box is gone too. The email is still on my home computer. Outlook is set to leave mail on the server for 3 days or until deleted from the deleted folder. In any case, I hadn't deleted the emails that are disappearing and I don't delete my sent emails. Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

I had the Q email set to last three days but I have now changed the settings to all.

Interesting...

I would suspect corruption in your email setup at this point. You may want to try deleting the account and then setting it up again. Do you have the option to save your sent email (this option only works for POP3) in the Inbox Menu>Options>Sending screen turned on?

I did not have the option to save sent messages checked so that explains one of the issues. Thanks.

barjohn,

Who is the service provider you are trying to configure POP to work with? That might help track down the missing email issue. I believe users in different forums on this site have had issues with Gmail POP accounts and email vanishing.

I haven't purchased MotoQ yet but am considering it to replace my current SmartPhone, the Samsung i600. This thread about POP3 emails being deleted has me a little concerned. I was thinking that I would set up a unique email address on my mail server for the phone and use Outlook on my always running desktop PC to filter and autoforward to this phone email address. I was hoping that I could avoid getting spam sent to my phone this way. This would also mean that I could delete these messages on the phone w/o worrying about losing the message on the desktop PC. Is there anything I am missing that would prevent me from taking this approach.

I found this thread after doing the same thing that CruiseGuy did. I have a Treo 700W. The issue is that if you accidentally delete email, it doesn't show up in your phone's deleted items or your server's deleted items. So, it has disappeared. I may be able to get my mail admin to revert my account from backup since I realized I did it yesterday, but this is a real issue. Aren't we in Q3 yet? Sounds like support rhetoric for:

C = Date we knew about the issue
R = Date you reported the issue
A = Random number of days
P = Date issue will be resolved

(C+A) < (R+A) < P

Wow, am I glad I found this forum. The wireless sync completely wiped out all my Outlook emails and dumped most in the Deleted Items folder. What fun it will be to go and figure out what folder these should be in and put them all back where they belong. Krap, all I wanted was a phone that would let me know who was emailing me and be able to respond. Also, won't let me set an appt from my PC in Outlook. Can make the appt on the Q but not from the PC. Bye bye Q.

I just purchased a Moto Q, and I was getting my email all synced up... I have noticed that if I have any emails in my inbox, when the phone either auto syncs or I do it manually; ALL emails in the inbox are deleted... gone... vanished... not in the other folder... GONE.

I have not noticed that any emails are being removed from my Gmail accounts, as others have stated here... but this was the most obvious problem in my particular situation. I assumed that the email client that came with the Q was just a total piece of undeveloped fecal matter, and a new "third party" client would fix this... I have not made it that far yet however...

it would be great if we could remedy this situation...

I don't cherish the idea of setting my account options to download "all messages"... I would be downloading all 500 some odd emails in my gmail accts every couple hours... so much for the battery.

Smile Disapearing email

I read a thread somewhere for the disapearing email on windows 5 phones.. This is the fix I used and my email does not disapear. On my email account on my Q I went to options, when it asks for my username@gmail.com I changed it to
recent:username@gmail.com, and my mail doesn't disapear any more. What an easy fix one word "recent:" infrount of your email address. I have fought with this problem on my Q since the Q was released. Hope it works for others too.

Sezzy, I hope you're right. This has sure been a problem for me, and about the only thing I dislike about the Q. I'll sure try it and hope it works for all of us.

Rob.
To change email settings for an Exchange account on the Moto Q Goto:

- Start menu
- ActiveSync
- Menu
- Options
- Scroll down and highlight "Email" under "Exchange Server"
- Select settings
- Change options for "Include the previous" to 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, or ALL.

This should work.
