I am not sure if this has been released for public, or is just OEM.

The question is, where did you get it? It is clearly not the version of VoiceCommand (though the version number is correct) released for public consumption here in the U.S.

There had been a UK 1.50 version that worked on some smartphones. I do not believe that version will work on the Q either.

Since I started this, let me clarify and close it out.
It turns out VC for the Smartphone is NOT publicly available, I was not aware of that, otherwise I would not have made the posting.
Sorry for the confusion and chaos that ensued as a result of my posting.

You can't make calls through Bluetooth in Voice Command. It's a software limitation. Even though Voice Signal blows compared to Voice Command, this limitation will keep me from ever using it.

I also have to agree with Abedh. After further review the retail version of VC is for PPC only, and wont install on the Q. VC for the Smartphone is NOT publicly available.

VC for smartphone is up on alt.binaries.warez.smartphone (USENET) if you want to try it out. Make sure to talk into the phone like you normally would, instead of holding it a foot away like you do for the PPC edition.

Has anyone figured out a way to lower the volume of Voice Command? It's so LOUD. Same with the power connect and disconnect beeps. It seems like there's another volume slider that we don't have access to in the Profiles that would change these, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone?

I've been using it (though not from that website.) Recognition is far better than VoiceSignal and it can be renamed as above so that it works via Bluetooth headset. One drawback -- if the phone is "sleeping," (screen off) pressing the button on the headset to activate VC will not wake it up. You'd have to hit a button on the phone to wake it, then use the headset.

Have you been able to adjust the volume of the voice prompt and beep? Mine seems to be on full blast all the time. It actually rattles the phone causing distortion it's so loud.

You need a newsreader like Outlook Express or Xnews. They will decode binary files. Use them to subscribe to the group, find the file (article) and decode it. I believe Mozilla Thunderbird will also work but I haven't been keeping up with its development.

Getting binary files from USENET is a bit complicated, if you've never done it before. I'd recommend going through a tutorial to get you started. Do a google search or start here:

http://www.slyck.com/ng.php?page=1

I use Giganews for a server and NewsBin Pro for a news reader. But if you're not going to use it much, then you could probably stick with your local ISPs news feeds and a free reader (like LarryH mentioned above).

As I commented in an earlier post, if you go to top post in this thread and do the "rename thing," VC will, indeed, work through the bluetooth headset. Very well, in fact. The only limitation (and it's annoying) is that if your phone's screen has gone off (suspend?), you have to wake the phone up before pressing the button on your BT headset.

That said (and repeated) it is my understanding that this version of VC was never commercially released by Microsoft. It's unlikely that anyone who has it will host it (though not impossible) because they'd risk nasty "cease and desist" letters from MS's legal department. The few who seem to have it -- well, you can see no one's saying where they got it.

There is an adjustment for system volume under profiles ... not sure if this will help since I can't figure out how to get the file onto my Q ... got it in a .rar format ... and I'm clueless about these type of files

Thanks to 3goldens ... I was able to get VC up and running on my Q ... however ... everytime I use VC to make a call ... I get a Gwes.exe error message ... I'm guessing it's a software conflict ... but it might be a memory issue ... used to get it alot with the 700W when I used VC ... it's the reason I got rid of the 700W ... I have the following software on my Q ...

VC
Handbase
Mobipocket
regedit
Total Commander
and some wav files I use for ringers and reminders

I've taken off all software one at a time ... and still get the errors ... I'm thinking of a hard reset and just load VC ... but it's a pain to get Handbase back one since I use two versions on my computer (ppc and smartphone) ... any help would be appreciated

For those struggling with volume issues, I have learned from qusers that it is controlled by the "earpiece volume". You can access it by holding down the scroll wheel for a few seconds.

This doesn't really make any sense since it uses the speakerphone, but hey...

This also changes the volume of the plug/unplug beep, thankfully.

Yay!

I got VC from Mr. 3goldens. I renamed it to voicesignals and copied it to the windows directory. A message pops up telling me that I am overwriting a file in rom and do I want to continue. I do. When all is done, all I get is a bleep and an icon of a speaker in the upper right of the today screen that is gone with a beep in 10 seconds? What did I do wrong? Have Verizon.
