Exchange "fetching attachment"

I successfully configured my work Exchange Server and did a sync of my mail, contacts, calendar. When I try and open an attachment (jpg, doc, xls) that arrived via Exchange, I get the message "fetching attachment" and the hourglass wheel thing spins and spins and the attachment never opens or downloads.

I figured maybe the issue was due to the Exchange Server being old (2003), so I deleted the account and set it up to a friend's work Exchange Server (2007), same "fetching attachment" message.

I sent the same message to GMail account, opened the attachments fine.

I sent the same message to my personal account (imap account at GoDaddy), opened the attachments fine.

I called Verizon and stumped them in 10 seconds. They gave me the Motorola Droid support # (800-734-5870) and they have had a few similar reports today. Their "resolution"?... "contact your IT department". Well, I AM the IT department and there is nothing that I can change in the Exchange Server that will change this. Works fine for Windows Mobile, iPhones, and BES, just not this.

I am sure it will get worked out, but until then this has to go back. Not being able to open attachments is a showstopper for me.

P.S. I also tried emailing the Exchange message to my Gmail account in hopes that I could open it that way. No luck. It arrives in Gmail as a .eml attachment and the Droid will open it; however, it is all garbage characters inside.

Please tell me this is happening to many other people so Motorola is flooded with calls and this has a chance of getting fixed asap!

Send a message via ICQ to dangerous

Have you looked at your Firewall logs to see if it is a firewall issue?

I too have the exact same problem. I am using DataViz Docs To Go and am unable to open any attachment (Word, PDF) from our exchange server. I receive the 'Fetching Attachment' waiting screen and nothing happens.

To fix the Exchange attachment issue, uncheck "accept all ssl certificates" under incoming server settings.

There are a number of other exchange issues that Motorala/Verizon/Google have become aware of. There should be a software update available in December to resolve them. See Motorola Droid OTA Update Coming December 11th? | Android Phone Fans

Unfortunatly my corporate account uses Certificates so it will not connect when I do this.

Has anyone else found a fix for this yet?

docs to go is saying it's a problem with the mail app but that the gmail app can download attachments.

hopefully the 12/11 update corrects it.
