I am very frustrated by a couple of things, such as the way my contacts are showing up (first name first, for example) and if I can't come to appreciate these changes from WM or figure out a workaround, I may be taking this phone back, despite liking it.
My iPhone shows first name 1st then last name but sorts via last name. I grew to actually love it this way...

Yes, Google synch will do this with the one exception I have noted earlier in the thread. You can also use Outlook as your interface to Google mail (set it up as IMAP for the most "exchange like" performance) and then you'll truly have a synchronized experience. Desktop/web/phone.

So Google synch, will sync everything I have in Outlook, to Google Calendar (online), which in return syncs to my phone?
Liking CompanionLink compared to the other few I've tried. It's difficult to deal with lots of tasks on a day compared to the SPB Diary I used before...that's a slick app, shame about the OS it runs upon.

Yeah, CompanionLink seems to be the best so far. Probably worth the $40.
I am really looking for a good re-usable checklist app more than a task manager. Something like Illium Software's Listpro. Everything I find seems to be either a shopping list (found a good one, Upvise, but it doesn't really fit the particular need I am after) or a task manager which all seem to require dates and don't have an easy way to reset the list for re-use. I have a lot of lists that I re-use like packing lists for business trips or camping trips or prepping the house for parties, stuff like that.
I was hoping that someone would come up with a good task list that interfaces with the calendar so I can move Tasks to appointments and back again. I tend to operate from a 2do list that turn into appointments. So I can't wait until Pocket Informant reaches the Android..it does that! But from what I've read on the company blog they haven't even start coding it as they have been waiting in the wings to see how this OS goes.

That appears to be exactly what CompanionLink does. It took all my undated Outlook tasks and put them as all-day events at the beginning of my Google calendar for today, with a keyword of TASK: at the start. I'll have to see if it moves them to tomorrow when it syncs tomorrow.
I am not sure I like that, but since Google doesn't have an independent task module, I guess it works.
It also put my notes in my contact list, with the title surrounded by "|" characters so it sorts to the beginning. Again, I guess because google doesn't really have a notes solution, although I would have preferred it to make Google Docs instead.
I am making (what should NOT be) a painful transition from my Palm Treo to the Motorola DROID phone.
I have installed this program to try to SYNC my Outlook CONTACTS... it took about 15 minutes to run a SYNC with 1500 contacts.... My old Palm Treo running Microsoft Hotsync took about 12 seconds! An alternative I found was a program called "iContact" which can be used like Outlook Contacts and automatically keeps itself in sync with Gmail Contacts which keeps in Sync with Droid phone automatically. I only use OUTLOOK for CONTACTS, so this has become an acceptable workaround.
Now if I can just find a replacement for my eWALLET that will SYNC itself with the DROID. Help??
Ps: link to that iContact is here:
iContact by DataLoad 0.5. IContact allows you to have access to your GMail address book from your desktop.. Download and information on DataLoad.
I am trying to decide between the Droid and the HTC Touch 2 Pro. The Droid looks really cool but I need Outlook for Calendar, Contacts and most importantly Notes. What about Documents to go by Dataviz. Would that allow you to sync between the Droid and Outlook?
to my knowledge the ONLY thing that syncs notes over the air is good mobile messaging on the winmo or Palm os platforms and that will cost you ~$30 bucks a month from a hosted provider (over and above what hosted email will cost you). Exchange activesync isn't able to sync notes.
if you dont want wireless than you could try companionlink above with android or device manager with winmo (I think that syncs notes?)
After having used winmo for years and moving to the droid- you couldn't get me to use winmo again with a gun to my head. There's definately down sides to android/droid for pim functions but the rest is so much better to me that i dont care- i can't go back.
you need to use exchange to push email to the phone. (and actually will push your contacts and cal also). You can alternatively use imap or pop3 from your exchange server but if your IT dudes haven't turned on active sync (the push part) they probably dont have imap or pop3.
try touchdown in the app market for now- it has a 5 day trial. It will apparently try to trick the exchange server into thinking that it's a PC client (eg outlook). it's worth a shot in the mean time.
