Installing Third Party Applications Using SDK 2.1 Full Guide

It's possible to install any soft on A920 with this tutorial.

1. Firsts get Symbian SDK 2.1 BETA for UIQ and install it.

Download info:
Server: ftp.symbian.com
Directory: UIQ21beta-Sep03
Username: symd1142
Password: Tg48=De5

The file you need to download is called UIQ2.1SDKwinsBETA.zip

http://www.symbian.com/developer/uiq21_sdk.asp

*Make sure you download the 2 files in the directory. The second one is a update.*

2. Once you've got the emulator working install QuartzFileManager under the emulator - you need to get the version from Symbian website/tools section otherwise it will not work.

*SDK emulator located in C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\release\winscw\urel\cepoc.exe*

Download info:
http://www.symbian.com/developer/dow...ileManager.zip

3. Install the quartzfilemanager under the emulator

*Firstly delete the Qfileman sis file from
C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\winscw\c\
(this is a emulator file only)

Then

Unzip the Quartfilemanager zip file to:
C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\winscw\c\

Then goto Launcher > Install > FileMan

Screenshot:

4. On the pc, copy system/apps/qfileman directory from emulator's C: drive to the choosen location on your pc disk.

Copy QfileMan directory from:
C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\winscw\c\system\Apps\qfileman (from the emulator)

To:
C:\documents\mediafiles\documents (on your phone using the a920 software)

5.

6. Do a full backup of the C: drive of the phone using A920 Desktop Suite on the PC

7. on the PC go to the direcory your backup was performed to(you need to enable showing of the hidden files) and move the files from `your motorola backup directory`\directory you've copied the files to\qfileman to `your motorola backup directory`\internal\system\apps\qfileman

*C:\Motorola\Your Handset\backup*

To see hidden files on Explorer (windows key and E) goto:
Tools > File Options > View > Hidden Files & folders > Show hidden files

8. Using Microsoft Access edit `your motorola backup directory`\`handset name`.mdb, find a TFilePath table and edit the path of qfileman to point to system\apps\qfileman

i.e. Find the location of the QfileMan on the access document.

Change to:

If you had to convert the database you can put it back to a access 97 here:

9. restore qfileman.app and qfileman.rsc to the phone

10. Once you've got the qfileman working you can follow a simple install procedure for most of the apps available(baring all the apps using appforge booster)

UPDATE:
A walk through on how to install custom apps with images is located here
http://stargate.uk-net.org/arb/a920/...ngQFileman.pdf

10.1 Install all the apps you want under the emulator.

10.2 You need to use total commander with sisview plugin to get the proper location of the installed files

10.3 go to the C:\system\install directory on the emulator drive and explore install files of the programs you've installed to get the location of all the installed files or check them straigt away by browsing sis files via total commander.

10.4 once you'd located all the necessary files, copy them to any location on the phone and then using qfileman copy/move them to the apropriate directories on the C: drive of the phone.

**IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS JUST DO A MASTER RESET AND START AT 1.**

INSTALLING JAVA GAMES
------------------------------
Walkthrough by ez2remember

1. Copy the .jad and .jar files to the PC C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\winscw\c\Documents (I like using this folder because it's easy to find, you can put it anywhere you like on the .........\c\)

2. Launch QFileMan on the PC from C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\release\winscw\urel\cepoc.exe.
Using QFileMan goto c:\Documents or wherever you put it. You will see both the .jar and .jad files. Click on the .jar file and it will give you an option to install.

3. Once installed you can test your app under launch section of the emulator. The general rule if it works OK on the emulator (PC) it should be okay on your phone aswell.

4. The files are installed under the PC directory C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\winscw\c\system\Apps and also C:\Symbian\UIQ_70\runtime\epoc32\winscw\c\system\mdilets

Using windows explorer on your PC, copy the installed folder to the d: of your phone (the SDCARD of your phone). Make sure your phone is connected with the desktop suite.
Example say you installed SpruceChess, it should be called something similar (in this case 'SpruceChess') under the ...\Apps section. This is the folder you want to copy.

Now goto ...\midlets section and again work out which folder the app was installed to. If you are unsure look in the folder itself and it should give you clues which is the correct folder. Example under the midlet area a folder was called 'Spruce Technologies' and when you go into this folder, there is another sub-folder called 'SpruceChess'. This clearly indicates this 'Spuce Technologies' folder is the one we wish to copy.

5. Now you have these important folders on your phone, launch QFileMan. Remember where we got your folders from PC ...\Apps area should goto the phones c:\system\apps and the PC ...\midlets area should goto the phones c:\system\MIDlets. So select the folder and copy the respective folders to the appropriate locations on the phone.

6. Your done, enjoy the new game/app in your launch area.

Don't Thank me Thank Gigi for providing me with the SDK kit
Thanks GIGI
