GpsGate allows multiple gps applications to share the same gps device on your PPC simultaneously (i.e. iGuidance, Live Search, Google Maps, etc). Franson next added a feature that would send your location in real time through your PPC Internet connection to their web server gpsgate.com to allow one to view other buddies in real time from any pc-based browser. Next they added a feature to save and view your own tracks on their site. The trick was that your PPC had to be continuously connected to the Internet so it could send your location every 15 seconds. The latest feature in version 2.6 automatically buffers your tracks on your PPC when the live Internet connection is unavailable, then automatically syncs the data up to their server when the connection is established. The "real" website is Franson - Quality software at affordable prices - it's $19.95 for a single PPC, $39.95 for a single PC, and $49.00 for both. Having it on a PC allows you to track and save tracks in GoogleEarth which is extremely cool but it is a little pricey for both of them. I've had it so long that I just buy the upgrades which aren't as expensive.

The best thing about GPSGate though is the ability to use GPS with multiple programs. Now I know that since WM5 MS has said you can do this with their GPS connection program. But it is difficult to set up and is a real pain to maintain. GPSGate just works - I've had as many as 5 programs accessing my BT GPS at the same time on my 6700. - sheureka

Thanks for chiming in. After the moderator moved the post, I temporarily lost track. I did not realize there was an upgrade cost to 2.6. I had bought the combo standard version, but find that I only use the PPC version and their gpsgate.com website, so I will only upgrade the PPC version to 2.6 for $12.95. Well worth it, in my opinion.

Not sure why this is in the mall - but whatever. Anyway, GPSGate has a new mobile client that allows "buddy" tracking on any internet enabled mobile phone. It seems like it would be very useful for lots of things I think - GPS Tracking and Vehicle Tracking: GpsGate.com mobile. - sheureka
