Okay, i had a my SD card in with all my backup info on it. I was in a fight with Verizon for two years over a contract. One year after, or so, I recharged the phone and powered it on. When I did, all the phones info was gone. Okay I said, no problem. I went to go into the card to restore everything and the card was empty!? Anyone know WTF happened? What good or use is the SD card if I lose everything?
I have never let my 7135 lose total battery power with an SD card carrying the backup installed, but such a circumstance should not cause the SD card to lose any data. One possibility is that you thought you has done a backup when, in reality, you had not. Another possibility is that the SD card is defective and did not store the backup. Did you check the content of the SD card after you did the first backup to ensure that it actually happened? If, in fact, you thought you had a backup on the SD card when in reality you did not, you are correct that the SD card, in your case, was useless. This is not normally the case (I have used the backup on my SD card to restore my 7135 several times). Regardless of the cause of your problem, it emphasizes the value of having multiple backups - one on an SD card and one on a PC (using HotSync). Then when one fails (as can easily happen) you can use the other.
Yes sir, thats what I do not understand, as of now. For grins and giggles, to see if backup buddy worked or not, for when I was in the field, I took the SD chip out, hard reset the phone, stuffed the chip back in and restored the phone from the SD card.
So, now I know the SD card works and all. I even played with it after wards to see where all the files were, what I could get into and such. Now, I know your gonna say "aha, maybe you deleted something??". Well, maybe, but, there was a few backups from the phone to the card I perforemed, and, as I know it and remember, the data was till there (on the SD card) the last time I used it before I put it on the shelf.
Now I have her up and running again, I need to find my/a SD card for her (they have been shuffled around). But, like I say.... If the power dies and the data goes away, then what????? I guess a backup as long as you have power is better than nothing at all? Guess somewhere down the line if I never need my phone (only one I have, no home phone) for a day or two, I can put it to the test. In the meantime..... ????????????????????????????
Dr. Dolittle is correct in that the SD card should have retained the backup even in the absence of power. So, since you established that the SD card and the 7135 worked properly initially, there is the possibility that it one of the two failed after the initial check. I would check the backup function with another known good SD card. If it still fails, then I would suspect the 7135. If you have access to another 7135, try the backup with the suspect SD card and if it works OK then it almost guaranteed that your 7135 is causing the problem.
