i seem to be getting weak signal with my phone this is the reson my dad got the treo (he ins clamed the 7135 and the gave him a treo now im using the 7135) it wirks great but seems to show a weak signal and drop in to analog a lot has the newest prl are the any sugestion or setting to check
There are many factors to consider. Which provider are you with? What market are you in? Does the Treo get better signal than the 7135 in the same location? Is it on the same network? Has the 7135 always gotten bad reception or gradually worsened?
Make sure (via test mode) that the Treo and the 7135 are really using the same network (same SID, band class, and channel). If they are the same, and the Treo gets better reception, then the 7135 probably has a hardware problem. A friend of mine recently replaced the phoneboard in his 7135, with the new phoneboard he gets 6-10 dB better signal than before. Electronic components do age, filters can become detuned, either through aging, weathering, or due to mechanical shock induced by drops etc. Calibration data may become inaccurate. Caps start leaking over time. There are many reasons why a phone may suffer weaker performance over time.
Best source for phone boards is to buy a used 7135 on eBay. Of course if it's in good shape you could just transfer (HotSync) all your stuff over to the other phone and be done with it. If you want to swap the phone board follow the instructions in this post.
Take the back cover off (4 - #6 Torx screws). When you have it off, the green board you are looking at is the RF or phone board. Look at the top right of this board - there should be a gold metal loop just above the "U30" marked on the board. I'm guessing that yours is probably gone. Well, it won't have actually gone anywhere - just no longer attached. This has happened to me several times over the years. Just simply clamp it, and re-solder.
If the loop is there and intact, you've got other problems... Even with a broken antenna, a 7135 should have better signal than a 650.
Keep in mind, if you have to replace the RF board, that is your ESN. Make sure that you can change your ESN with your provider, as more and more people are finding they can't do that with these phones as many providers are wanting them gone now.
