7135 lockup

I have a Kyocera 7135 that refuses to go past the start-up screen. It is not responsive to any taps on either the display screen or the graffiti screen. Any clues or ideas on how to fix this? I have done hard and soft resets to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you're initiating a hard reset? Do you get the "Erase all data Y/N" splash screen or just the normal Palm boot screen?

Have you modified your Flash RAM in any way (with JackFlash/JackSprat or similar apps)?

Then it looks like she's a gone-er, sorry. The good news is that ALLTEL still activates the 7135, so you can just get a replacement on eBay and be up and running again.

Is there a way to bypass the setup screen?

What do you mean by "setup screen"? Are you talking about the touchscreen calibration widget? Please describe in more detail the steps you're taking and the phone's display corresponding to each step.

It means there's some kind of hardware problem (probably a defective touchscreen controller, but could be something as simple as a broken wire in the flex connector to the touchscreen module) and there's no way around it. It may be possible to replace the touchscreen controller (Analog Devices AD7843) on the PDA board, or the entire PDA board, but in all likelihood you're better off just getting a new phone. Like I said, you can still activate 7135's with Alltel, so that's probably the way to go.
