Nope, there's no way to make 2 mobiles talk to each other. Because they're hardwired to transmit only in a certain band and to receive only in a certain band. In order for 2 mobiles to talk to each other, one would have to receive in the same band as the other one transmits and vice versa, in other words the transmit and receive frequencies on one of the mobiles would have to be swapped to match those of a base station. This is not possible without major redesign of the filters, clocks, software, etc.
