Thumbs up

Been in use since it first came out up here in Canuck land.

Replaced- battery cover, many nicks and scrapes. This little machine keeps on going!

Tried the Treo650 for a week and enjoyed the screen and speed, but HATED the non-clamshell design and no dedicated area for grafitti and more. Could.. not.. keep.. it!

Back to my stalwart and faithful 7135. Will be in use until some developer comes up with the bright idea to make another Palm (clamshell) smartphone.

yep, grab an unlocked unit on Ebay, try and choose one that is from your service provider if possible, minimizes the chances of problems.

if you have a 7135 and it dies, you can usually get away with just doing an ESN change to another phone of the same model.

I believe it is when you have a (different) phone and try to change to a 7135 that Verizon craps an eggroll.

Going on third year - original phone!

Hey Everyone!
I have had this phone since April 2003 - and people still can't believe what it does. It DOES have a steep learning curve but this forum took care of that for me. I still use it as a laptop modem when I don't have wifi access, etc., and my colleagues are just are in awe of what it does. I bought a slightly used one to have as a spare if this one dies on me. I am never giving up on it - love the clamshell and graffitti. I don't think anyone but Kyocera could come up with a legitimate replacement.
BTW - I still have Verizon plan, no data, and use MOU for surfing/picking up email when stuck without any other internet access. I use Backup Buddy every morning after I sync and am good to go.
The only problems I have had are slightly cosmetic - scratches - and a slightly bent antenna. I am also using the original battery, and have 2 backup batteries. Really has been a rock-solid phone for me.

Cindy

If your boss has service with Verizon, I'd want to think twice about advising him to get a 7135 backup. What is he going to think when Verizon refuses to activate the backup when needed?

I don't know of any backups on e-bay. Search this forum for backupman and backup buddy. These are both sold as downloads. You can download the software and use it for a short time without paying to try it out.

YAY!

Got my beloved 7135 back from Harold this Fri. and it's working perfectly. Supplied a new faceplate for the almost-instantly-bruised-and-scratched original, and some styli I asked for, all for the same price.

Quick, and careful service.

Everybody with troubles should send them to him. DON'T accept the ridiculous 650 offer, you don't need to be without the excellent integration and functionality.

As for VZW, getting it going with them again was no problem at all. I think if you already have one, they aren't going to hassle you. I told the CSR that I had had it repaired with a new phone board, therefore a new ESN, and she said, "oh, that's right, I'll help you," and we did the deed.

I am a happy nerd.

I've been using a 7135 for about 6 months. I absolutely love it. The phone got even better once I found out about BeBopper - I use the phone more as an MP3 player even more than I do as a phone. I really need the dual analog/digital support, as I occasionally travel to fairly remote areas that still only have analog towers. I don't think any of the Treos have this. And, of course, I would never want to use a phone that is not a flip phone.

Thanks to those who have responded to my question. So, correct me if I am wrong ...

1. I need to make sure I purchase a 7135 for my carrier (Verizon).
2. I need to make sure that it is "unlocked." How do I guarantee this?

VZW doesn't lock their phones. Any 7135 you buy with VZW branding will be unlocked. You should get the ESN from the seller and verify that you can activate it on Verizon's system before bidding, many people have reported being unable to activate 7135's on VZW nowadays.

WHOA! Nicky!

VZW is very antsy about activating a 7135 if you haven't already been on their system with one.

I was able to because I already had one. I guess they have loosened their restrictions somewhat, as a few months ago they wouldn't have even activated mine under these circumstances. But be careful. As for "unlocked", that isn't an issue if it is a VZW phone.

Is my understanding.

They seem OK these days if you already have a 7135, in changing to another ESN. Is my experience (see my thread, REPAIR IT! Don't Replace it!). But starting out with a fresh 7135 with them? Very problematical, according to many.
