Do i have the plague or something?

holy hell batman so i get my 7135 *verizon* off of ebay gets here im all excited playing with the features and what not. so i decide it time to get service, i have altell the guy who i bought the phone from said he had verizon but had the phone switched to altell he said it should be no problem getting the phone on my altell. so i drive a half hour to go to an altell store i walk in they look at the phone and say "no sorry it says verizon on it we cant switch service" i was like "the person who had it before me had it switched"...

they told me "well he lied to you because its not possible"

it serously felt like i had the plague the second they saw the verizon logo on my phone. what the hell was wrong with them it has to be possible they didnt even try to do it they just told me "no its not possible"

so i called the guy who sent me the phone and he said they can do it over the phone.

so my questions
1.what info should i have before calling them?
2.who exactly do i call?
3.does this cost money?
4.how the hell does the internet work on my cell phone, and does that cost money...

any help would be greatly appricated, thank you

Programming phones from other carriers is a CDMA nightmare that fewer and fewer carriers will even attempt anymore.

Last I heard, Verizon and Alltel were the only two carriers of any significant size still doing it. I'm unaware that Alltel changed that policy, but I wouldn't be surprised.

According to this FAQ I found on their site, though, Alltel still supports "outside" phones:

Maybe you can take that link with you to the store and try again?

Codeman,

Carriers are really getting away from allowing phones from other carriers on their systems because of #1: money - new phones have links to online services like "Get It Now" & "Axcess Apps." Sprint calls these BREW & Java applications "Vending machines" inside the phones because when you get to using them they bring in big bucks to the carrier. Anyway, they really are not reprogrammable between carriers, but the 7135 doesn't have BREW so that doesn't matter in this case. There are other software issues, too, though, like Mobile Web IP addresses & differences in operating software - an example is Verizon's Motorola T720 was an unstable POS that froze constantly, causing them to replace it with the T722. Alltel's had poor reception, but was stable.
The biggest issue is the PRL - prefered roaming list - telling the phone what network to use in every square mile of N. America. Every carrier's is different. If your phone's previous owner had Verizon's PRL overwritten, no prob, just call over the phone (800-alltel-1) & tell them you have another phone you would like to use and mention NOTHING of Verizon.
But before you can get this done, make sure the phone is capable of locking onto Alltel's service or else it will have to be flashed at a store, which you already have seen won't get done. Just turn on the phone side, and when it comes up with a steady signal, dial some non-real number like *48 or something and press send. If the message stating you cannot complete the call is from Alltel, then call them up & give them the esn. if you get someone else, like Verizon, US Cellular, etc, then your PRL is not set to Alltel and you cannot update the PRL without visiting a store.

Hope it helps

I am using a VZN 7135 on Alltel with no swithing at all!

The phones are identical. I have used an Alltel 7135 on VZN for years too.

Actually I have had Alltel and VZN on the phone at the same time with no problem.

All you have to do is program the phone for Alltel and you are golden for the phone side. For the data side all you have to do is set up your connectivity. Alltel tech support can help you do it over the phone.

It is NOT as difficult as you have been lead to believe.

This forum tells about programing the phone. All you need is your mobile number and your home location ID number or SID.

If the phone was on VZN before it won't matter where you call from when you dial *611 it will go to VZN because of the programing not the PRL.

PRL only affects where the phone roams. That does need to be update once you have the programed by dialing *228 from your Home area. (NOT roaming) If you have your Alltel number working it will update your PRL with Alltel current one which is 705.
