I felt the same way you did -- can't hurt to buy it, right? A quick review:
Pros:
- The camera works as advertised and has not yet crashed my Palm.
Cons:
- The update is very slow, about once every 2-3 seconds, so it can take a long time to focus the camera.
- Manual focus means that most of your images will be blurry.
- Manual shutter adjust means most of your images will be too dark / too bright
- You need to turn off the Phone part of your 7135, otherwise the application will not respond properly. I always forget to turn it back on afterwards.
- Image quality is poor.
- The files are saved in a proprietary format. VEOTransfer can convert them to JPG for you, but this process is very very slow (about 3 minutes per picture).
- The camera is awkward and irritating to have sticking out the side like that.
- Putting in the camera means you have to take out the SD card and keep it somewhere.
Great. Thanks for the input. I guess that's a big NO, even for just 8 bucks.
I think all the resets and missed my 7135 has been doing lately are getting to be too much and I'm gonna try for the Verizon 650 update. I've heard that camera is pretty decent.
I was going to post asking about that. Are they making you take some sort of data plan? I don't want to change my plan. I just have a broken phone and want it replaced. Not my fault that they can't secure their network to keep us off if we don't have a data plan. I would just use a 3rd party dialup anyway.
I dunno for 8$ bucks maybe. I got mine for $25 a while ago. I definately don't use it as a everyday camera. Its more a gadget for my gadget. But I keep it in my bag and if I need to take a quick pic its there.

Please let us know how it goes. I'd like to get the Treo 650 if i can avoid the data plan. Thanks!
I too bought a Veo from surpluscomputers, it's not the best, but for $9, I'll keep it.
The first one I got loaded, and worked properly the first day, but then I got a message that the handheld could not recognize the card. Surpluscomputers sent me a replacement, and it works, but the image is sideways. I installed the same files I did before-I had uninstalled it-but it's not working. What am I missing?
Thanks!

I think the big upset over on the 600/650 forums is that older Smartphone users are finding that there is NO WAY to initiate ANY kind of data connection without Verizon's Data usage. I think they even blocked dial-up and I believe that while some smartphones come with WI-Fi, they omitted that option as well so you are forced into Broadband (unless you happen to live somewhere they don't consider important enough for Broadband - then you are forced into the 1X connection)
This has nothing to do with the camera, but how would I go about using that 3rd party dial up? I am using a reprogrammed 7135 on a carrier that doesn't support that kind of data calls (thanks Mark for the heads up on that). Pardon my ignorance but boy that'd be great to be able to get my pop3 email on my phone!
