How to unlock US Cellular Kyocera 7135 for Verizon use
Hi. I have an immaculate US Cellular Kyocera 7135 that I would like to use on Verizon's network. Does anyone know how to unlock this phone so I can have Verizon program it for their network? Thanks in advance for your help.
Verizon won't allow you to activate a 7135, even when replacing an existing 7135. This appears to be one of those "Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, just plain NO" kind of deals.
Nothing you can do to the phone can change provider policy. There are ways to get a 7135 registered, but none of them are legal (or very smart).
Hey, you really are good at this curmudgeon stuff. Can I become a curmudgeon too? Is there training or an apprenticeship program?
Really, thanks for the info. Fortunately, I have pictures of the Verizon CTO doing some really strange things with a wire pull lubrication system so getting the phone on their network should not be a problem.
As far as unlocking, I would suggest finding a friendly representative at a company-owned USCC store who will try to find the phone's six-digit programming code for you. When I was with USCC, they could look under my account for the information.
If the phone were still new, before they touched it, the service programming code would still be 000000, just like Verizon.
I've never had to do anything irregular to activate a 7135 with VZW; I've used the online ESN changer without any problems.
With my current VZW 7135, I activated the ESN and programmed the MDN/MIN and home system id myself. I'm not any kind of technology wizard. If you can get into the programming, you can do it yourself. If you feel you have to go into a VZW store, or call customer service, you run the risk of facing the kind of crap you just got from the previous poster.
Hi Crain. Thanks for your help. I just called Verizon and simply asked them to add my phone. They asked for the ESN number, and told me that they added the phone to the Verizon network and it should work. When I turned it on however, it read "Sevice Required, Contact Provider" and would not accept any numbers from the keypad. I called back customer service, and they were stumped. Any ideas?

That message means your 7135's radio is dead and in need of repair or replacement.
Verizon Technical support has tried very hard to get the phone to work with no success. First they tried a soft reset by just holding the power button while pressing the reset button. (This did not erase all settings and I still was locked out of the keypad). Next they had me hold the backlight button down while I pushed the reset button. This prompted the question "Do you want all data erased?' to which I responded yes. They were surprised that this did not erase the old phone number, and did not enable me to input new keyboard commands. They now say that I must find out how to unlock the phone (in other words, I must find out how to eliminate the lock that US Cellular put on it).
Apparently I need an SPC code in order to use my phone according to Kyocera's website. Go to: http://support.kyocera-wireless.com/...68C800F13C2A08
and then select "Service Required message - All" from the list of solutions. Here they explain why I need an SPC code to unlock the phone. Apparently, I need the SPC code from US Cellular.
Does anyone know what SPC code is used by US Cellular? I heard that the code may be different for each phone, and is an algorithm based upon my ESN.
