I purchased an 'experienced' 7135 on eBay for a great price with a load of accessories. The phone is a little battle scarred - and I can remedy that with a new case, but it won't matter if I can't get it activated on Alltel.
It is a Verizon branded phone. When I went to the local Alltel shop, they told me that they needed to update the roaming lists for Alltel. The attempted to hook it up to the PC in the store that they use for saving phone books and switching them from one phone to another.
I left the phone with them all afternoon and went back to pick it up only to find they couldn't "make it work." Something about the PC not recognizing the phone.
The girl I talked to said that the phone s/w needed to be updated so that Alltel could "see it" on the network.
The store manager explained earlier that if they assigned the ESN for this phone to my account that the phone wouldn't work on the Alltel network since the phone wouldn't recognize the Alltel towers.
From the reading I have been doing on this forum and a couple of other sites, I am wondering if I have them assign the ESN to my account and then dial *288, will that update the list?
OR... is there some sort of software that I can load from *my* PC to make the transition?
Also considered calling Alltel customer support directly and letting them walk me through the change in equipment as they have done in the past to see what would happen.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I can resell the phone on eBay and hope to find another deal on an Alltel 7135, but I like a challenge and maybe I can be up a running sooner.
I have put a Verison phone on Alltel, the only thing you have to do is re-flash the QCN software on to it (AKA the PRI Version, which needs to be 7135_Alltel_T08.qcn) so it would connect to the network, but once that was done it is good to go, there are a couple of things they have to do ( *350, *228 ) but that is the only file I had to change to make it work. Other than that the standard scan the barcode for the ESN, and normal programming stuff (where you input your phone number in NAM1 etc).
Also for the phone to be recognized by the computer you have to have it is service mode, which you get into on the phone screen by typing "111111" and then scrolling down to the bottom of the menu and selcting options.
Good luck, if you find an alltel tech that knows what he/she is doing this should not be that hard.

you dont even need to flash it. all i did was update the phones settings for alltel.. which a phone call to alltel 1-800-alltel1 solves. when you get done talking to them you should have it ready to go... exept the one thing they always forget and it why alltel is retarded... that would be update the prl... a simple data call to a certin phone number will fix this.. i forgot the number though. *18801 or something to that sort. somebody here knows it or the alltel rep should know it as well. than you phone is almost ready to go... turn it off. turn it on and bingo...
also for pc access after options you have to go into service interface. than you will have PC access
Got it solved yet? Make sure you read the post about Verizon 7135s on Alltel. Big thing is making sure you can get the PRL updated. Their flashing station can do that, but my experience is that 7135s die on that table about as often as they get the transfusion done correctly, so I suggest OTA (over-the-air) PRL update. Thing is, you MUST be out of range of Verizon service for it to work, preferably in an area completely neutral to Verizon, but still w/i Alltel's area, because the phone needs to be programed to that Alltel areas SID (System ID), then set to "No Roaming" & Digital Only" Then when it can only find Alltel, AND has been put onto your account, then do a *228 call, pressing option 2 (but you have to listen and make sure it was Alltel that is doing the updating)
The OTHER Alltel thread is "Do I have the plague or something?" started by Codeman
I took the path of least resistance. Found a member of this forum who had an Alltel branded 7135 he was willing to sell for a GREAT price. Then I sold the VZW phone I had on eBay for a $12 loss. But since I kept the 128MB card I bought with it the first time, I figure I came out about even.
So far so good with the phone. Took the gal at the Alltel store all of 2 minutes to activate the phone... although when I dialed the first call, I hit VZ and couldn't complete the call... Was still in the parking lot, so I ran back in and she changed the roaming instructions so that it was allowed to see Alltel (the fellow I got it from was using Alltel on VZ).
I learned more than I hope I ever need about setting up phones wiht this adventure... but I know now what I need to do if I ever end up in a similar situation.
