Can someone help me out? I moved my computer between rooms, and now when I go to hotsync I get the little bubble about "new hardware found" and it's like my computer has never seen the PDA before.
I dug out the CD and everything, but it still is giving me an error about "can't install hardware, can't find file" or some such nonsense. How do I get out of this? Why is it being so stupid?
It's like the computer associates hardware with certain exact USB ports and can't share between. But I can't even seem to fix this if I try.
I have the same problem periodically if I remove the port replicator from my laptop w/o first clicking the "safely remove hardware" icon in the tool tray of my Windows XP Pro machine. You are right. . .it does seem as if the computer has registered a specific USB port for the sync cradle.
Here's what I do: when you plug in the USB sync cradle and get the "found new hardware" message, it should give you some message about installing the new driver (I'm doing this from memory so I hope I'm not leaving anything out.). The driver is already in your computer. Instead of checking the have disk box, click the browse button and go to C:--->PROGRAM FILES--->PALM--->USB DRIVER. Double click USB Driver and it should reinstall it from there and immediately recognize your sync cradle. There should be no need to re-install any other info UNLESS YOU PURPOSELY DELETED IT TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!
If you are not doing this on a Windows machine . . . Never Mind!!!!

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a palm directory under program files ... ? Weird thing about all this is that when I hit hotsync, it says "found new hardware: kyocera handheld". So it knows some stuff. It thinks it knows what driver to use even and then says it couldn't find a file and errors out. Very annoying.
I really don't know what to try next. Any other ideas?
I don't know what to tell you. Did you originally install the Palm Desktop software that came with your 7135? The default install directory should be C:\Program Files\Palm. If you changed the install location the "Palm" would be different. Try looking for "Kyocera" or Palm Desktop. It has to be there if you have been syncing your phone. Also, (I'm not trying to be rude here) these files should be on your hard drive, not the Kyocera CD that came with your phone.
I just disconnected mine to see exactly what it does when the "found new hardware" box shows up:
1. check "no, not this time"
2. check "install from a list or specific location (advanced)"
3. check "search for the best driver in these locations"---> then check the box "include this location in the search" then type
C:\Program Files\Palm\USB_Driver
4.If this doesn't work, repeat steps 1 & 2 & the first part of 3. Instead of typing the location, click Browse and look for anything related to Palm or Kyocera, etc.
I just did this to help you and mine re-installed with no problem.
Hope this works for you! ALSO . . .CHECK YOUR PM FOR ADDITIONAL HELP.

Thanks for helping. I think my equivalent directory is "Sony Handheld", which seems stupid, but when I installed the Kyocera Palm desktop it wanted to put it where my Palm files were or something. I was transferring all my stuff from my Clie.
I navigated to that directory and it's pretty much the same story. Here's the thing. When I hit the hotsync, it gives the "found new hardware" message, but if I click through dialog boxes without waiting too long, it will normally perform the hotsync anyway, it's just that it gives an error to do with the installaton of drivers. The hotsync works fine. It does act like it found the files it wants and installed them, it just gets the error at the end.
I read a message on usenet about some registry key being missing (getting erased by mistake) and preventing Windows from realizing that the software has been successfully installed. The drivers and stuff are obviosuly present, this is just some XP issue. It might be this registry thing, but the thing I read didn't give me enough detail to know how to fix it.
I guess I'll try reinstalling the Kyocera software and pray that my databases don't get blown away.
If you are going to re-install the Kyo software, creat a folder called "Work" off of your root directory (C:\) and COPY all of your "Sony..." folder to Work. After you install the Kyo software, if you have a problem, you can copy your data files back to the Kyo folder.

Well, I was going to just do the install, but I saw the option for "repair" on the kyo disk and did that instead. Didn't help.
I'm really thinking this is an XP problem to do with the drivers/registry or something, since it does actually work. XP just insists on redetecting the hardware every single time.
I don't have any further suggestions except to uninstall your palm desktop, reboot your computer, then reinstall the Kyo software making certain to follow all install directions. There was something in the install about not using a palm desktop from any other device. I don't remember what it was as this is the first PDA I purchased.
When you do your first hotsync following install, set ALL of your hotsync prefs for "handheld overwrites desktop". That is assuming the data in your Palm is accurate.
ABOVE ALL ELSE. . . BACKUP YOUR PALM DATA TO YOUR SD CARD 1ST!
Good Luck!!!

Well, I reinstalled everything and still no luck. I switched from USB to serial port though, and it worked instantly. I guess I'll stick with that for a while. The thing is dog slow as it is, I can't imagine USB vs. serial makes any difference as far as that goes.
I have a new toshiba laptop running windows xp. If I don't plug my phone or printer into the same usb port every time I get the new hardware found, and it reloads all the drivers. Ain't right just something I live with
Yes I've seen where a USB device will "tie" itself to a specific USB port. Very odd because they are all supposed to be interchangable, at least according to spec. And you discovered the work around... use the serial port.

Nothing else does try to reload. My 3.5 drive, 7135, cordless mouse. Just my printer, which I leave at the office and bring my laptop home. But to put this back on topic. I can understand why on some computers the 7135 might like the the same usb port.
