After 10 months of use I just got the dreaded srcp message. I already knew all about it from this forum...but, I didn't know how to fix it. I found out that no one does.
After numerous hard and soft resets and with verizons help...nothing worked. They said they would send me a Treo 600...I told them "I DON'T WANT IT!". They sent me one anyway...it should be at my home now. I spoke to Kyocera and they agreed to let me send my phone to them so they could flash it. I knew this may or may not work, but they told me it would extend my warranty 90 days from the date of repair. I figured I might as well do it.
I'm out of town so I don't have access to my pc (to flash it myself) and I'm without a phone. The palm works fine...thank goodness...and thank goodness for cardbackup which restored the palm flawlessly several times.
On day three I was poking around in the Prefs Phone>Phone Service menu (accessed via palm launcher)...and I discovered that something was not right. The 'Roam Option' field was set to 'A Only'...which by the way isn't even in the pick list! I recalled from previous non-kyo 7135 phone set-ups that verizon phones (mine anyway) should be set to 'Automatic B'. So, I selected 'Automatic B', performed a soft reset and my phone was back!!! No more SRCP!!! Just to make sure it would keep, I used card backup to do a partial restore in which I restored the saved prefs and unsaved prefs from a backup dated prior to the srcp failure. I the did another soft rest and everything is back to normal!
WHEW!!!
Now I have a working 7135 and a Treo 600 (verizon said I didn't have to send the 7135 back since it was dead). I think I'll sell the Treo 600 on ebay and use the proceeds to buy another 7135 from cellstar for $189...I think I can get $250~300 for the treo.
Anyway...I don't know if my fix will keep, but its worth a try!!!
I figure that since I said I didn't want it and they sent it to me anyway...and the fact that verizon considers their support of my 7135 a closed matter...I can do what I want with it. I just can't go to verizon with any future problems with the 7135.
Maybe I'll just wait a while and keep the treo sealed in the fedex package just in case...
holy hell.. now we know how to fix the issue.. if you ever get the srcp error just poke around in da phone and fix it urself.
i always figured it was a stupid software issue
I may be cursing myself, Abe, but I just checked my pref's and under the Roam Options mine is set to Automatic A. I'm on Verizon, had the phone just under 2 years, and not had the SRCP. My options include Automatic A, Automatic B, and No Roaming. As far as I can remember, its always been set to Automatic A. I wonder if just changing it and resetting did the fix but as mine is set to A, this must be a valid option. I'd hold on to the Treo for a bit (my partner just got one and actually likes it). Good luck!

Holy ****! Did someone find a fix to the SCRP! common, Abe what were the other settings on your Phone service prefs... Let's get some others with SCRP phones to chime in to confirm this!
Well done, Abe... if it stands the test..

From the pda (phone turned on showing srcp message):
Prefs Phone>>Phone service>>Roam Option>>Automatic B
Above is the setting that fixed it for me. Somehow it got changed to "A Only" Which isn't even in the dropdown list...and will result in the phone not seeing verizon towers (I think)
The other settings...I didn't touch them...
CHAP...disabled
digital/analog...automatic
Location...911 only
After I changed 'roam option' to 'Automatic B' I did a soft reset, powered on the phone and poof...srcp gone.
I did this on the evening of 5/2...it's only been like...2 days...but, no problems so far...
Abe, I must have misread your initial post... Mine was set to Automatic A, not A only, so changing to one of the automatics not only may be the fix everyone is looking for.

Once you see SRCP on your screen, your phone is "terminal".
I managed to fix mine a few times by multiple re-boots, and I changed the Automatic A, Automatic B, B Only, A Only (That only tells it what network to look for - in the old days, Verizon was on "A", and some other carrier was "B" - no big mystery here.
Sorry guys - that fix is temporary, and likely a coincidence, rather than a true fix.
If the fix was so easy, it would have been discovered long ago. Remember, there are symptoms BEFORE you get the SRCP - lost calls, lost signal, constant searching for signal.
I went ahead and accepted the Treo 600. It took me a week, but I like it better than the 7135 - except for the lack of a clam shell, and the absense of a little screen on top telling me who is calling.
Death is inevitable - just be glad that the new Treo 650 is just around the corner, and soon they will be giving 650's to the Kyocera Orphans - and I'll be paying to upgrade, while you get one free.
After my srcp...it was set to 'A Only' not in the pick list. Verizon is on the B side. If set to A only, the phone will never look to the B side for a signal. If set to Automatic A, it will look to the A side first then the B side...therefore the phone may still work...although you may be roaming when you don't have to be. Automatic B looks at the B side (vzw) if it finds a signal...you're on verizons network...if not, it looks to the A side if it finds a signal you're roaming.
Someone (brave) should try setting their 7135 to A only (if its in your pick list) then do a soft reset...see if you have srcp when you power it back on.
For some reason my phone changed to A only...I like someones conspiracy theory....verizon used ota programming to set A only...to finally get rid of all remaining 7135 headaches...and in the process get rid of the last of the Treo 600's to make room for the Treo 650's . Verizon data rep told me that Treo 650 would be released 5/9 for enterprise but didn't know about the general public release.

Nah. They have plenty of 600's to give away still. They won't be giving away $500 phones for free anytime soon.

There might be a number of ways to generate this error message. and symptoms. It's also possible that you never had THE srcp problem to begin with but somehow got set to A only which generates the same message/effect.
All I know is:
1) my phone said srcp
2) three days of support from vzw and kyo (and tips on this forum) couldn't fix it.
3) I noticed the 'A Only' setting which is not even a choice in the pick list...how did it get there?
4) I changed the setting to 'Automatic B' and my phone was fixed.
5) My phone is still working...
People seem to be downplaying this one time srcp fix story...but, has anyone tried this fix on a srcp phone? With what result?
I hope others out there at least try it before giving up on their 7135.
FWIW...I just sent back the Treo 600 that vzw sent as a replacement for the 7135.

Sure. It's strictly a phone side issue. There are a lot of chips in there. The current *guess* is that it is a hardware issue.
It's conceivable that your actions did fix the problem on your phone either permanently or temporarily. I'd guess it likely that configuring A/B options would result in programming/configuring/reseting a chip. What might be consistent with the symptoms is that a particular chip goes bad over time due to heat, physical stress, power, etc that produces this symptom. reseting/programming it may correct the problem for the time being.
I don't think we know yet. I would think that Kyocera labs knows. I seem to remember people here dealing directly with Kyocera on this and Kyocera would simply have them send their phone in to be swapped. It doesn't seem they would do that for a very simple preferences misconfiguration that they should be very adept at diagnosing.
I'm hoping you're on to something though since I always worry about it happening to me in the future and not being able to get a replacement 7135.
When I got kyocera on the phone...and they couldn't fix it, they were going to have me send it in to get re-flashed. Which implies to me that they think its a software issue. Well, we know that re-flashing only has limited results. I'm not so sure that even kyocera knows what the exact problem is.
We'll see. I'll keep updating this thread...if I get SRCP again, I now know to check that setting first. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Do you have any other of the SRCP symptoms - lost signal, constant searching?
I tried your "fix" before I called Verizon on my 7135. It did not work in my case, although my phone would come and go in the end - kind of like in a coma, but back to say goodbye. It got so I could make ONE call - and it would go back to SRCP.
If it was this easy, I think we would have fixed them all by now.
I don't think I had any symptoms. Mine was a sudden death. I finished call, turned the phone off to go to bed...forgot that I had to make one more call and when I powered it back on...SRCP.
So, maybe mine was a freak SRCP???
Anyway...I'm glad...IMO there aren't any good replacements out there...especially not on verizon. I might be able to live with the Treo 650 if it were offered to me as a replacement for my non-revivable 7135.
