Is there a way to change the display of contacts to First Name, Last Name istead of the default Last Name, First Name or even worse the Company Name, Last Name?

Carla, there are other programs out there that access the address book datafiles and display them in the way you want.
I do not use them but you ought to be able to fine them on Palmpilot sites out there. I'll try to find a few links for you in the coming week. No promises, but I am sure there are at least 2 out there still working.
