After 7135, What's Next?

Where do we go from here.... The 7135 is going away. I have a spare so I am OK for a while -- but...

What is the next best smartphone? Treo?

I need good PDA with high speed web and pop mail and I also like using my 7135 as a modem for my notebook computer.

I've been wondering the same thing. At this point, even though I prefer a flip-phone form factor, I'm not-so-patiently waiting for Verizon to offer the Treo 650, and will probably move to that.

I've also considered moving away from the Palm platform (!!!), but really like the wide range of software that's available, so that's not a very attractive option either.

I had to laugh when I saw that Sony had just announced new phones that INCLUDE MP3 players. Can you believe it? An MP3 player in a phone - what a GREAT idea! Oh, wait - Kyocera had that in 2002!!!

If you see anything new that looks like a good possibility, please let us know!

I just posted a new thread about the Audovox SMT5600 that looks interesting. Windows based, unfortunately, but smaller, lighter than the 7135 and only $200 post rebate. Has an expansion slot. Looks like it might have some potential. Personally, I like the wealth of reasonably priced Palm apps and e-books (but you can get those in some sort of MICROSOFT reader format, right?). Also I wonder about text entry with only a phone key pad.

I just find my 7135 hard to beat. I love it. Sure it has some stability problems from time to time, but well worth the trouble.

I always have people commenting how much they like the "mid size" form factor. I agree. No smaller, no larger.

I am sure there is a long wish list on this forum containing things that are wrong with the 7135 but I still think its the best.

My pet wish? I wish the flip cover had two detents. The one it has and one the was half way inbetween. I would like it to sit a little more upright when I place it on the desk.

My second wish is for a REAL car kit.
